You know him from New Girl, Scary Movie,
and just so many other great TV shows and movies.
Well, this weekend,
you can catch the Damon Wayans Jr. at the Tacoma Comedy Club.
But first, he's joining us right here.
Good morning to you.
Good to see you again.
Good to see you, too.
Do you see my Goku?
Look at this.
I love it.
It's Super Saiyan mode, right?
Because you're like that funny.
Look at you.
I know it.
I know it.
Look at you.
Well, thank you very much.
Hey, listen, I was on your Instagram because I follow you,
of course, and you had me cackling
because you're telling Tacoma to get ready to have
their cheeks spread comedically, of course,
right? Spread your cheeks, Tacoma, comedically.
When you smile, your cheek, you know what I mean?
Of course, of course. Now, you were telling me during
the break, this is your first time in
Tacoma, but something keeps bringing you back to the Pacific Northwest.
Tell me about how great we
are well you guys are fantastic first of all
um it's a it's a melting pot which i love um and so
i i love bringing my comedy there to kind
of see what people are laughing at because it's like from
all different you know cultures and upbringings
and um i love how pretty it is out there so yeah
i'm very excited to to see what tacoma has
in store i've been to seattle a few times but i've
I've never been to Tacoma.
Okay, amazing stuff.
Well, I know that we're all so
excited for you to come on by.
And I noticed just in the way
you're talking about comedy right
now, I mean, it's really an
evolving art form and you're
rocking it in stand up,
scripted TV, even social media,
as I mentioned, and obviously,
you want to be funny, right?
That's always the goal, but
how do you get that punchline out
there differently depending on
what you're doing?
I would say with stand up,
It's a lot easier because as soon as you say it,
they're going to let you know how they feel about it.
And so what I like to do is I like to refine my jokes.
I never just bring new jokes on stage that I've never said before,
especially to paying customers.
I work them out, make sure that they're good
and funny enough to be presented to you all.
So, yeah, I definitely take my job seriously.
I know for a fact you will come to my shows
and you will laugh from start to finish.
that is my primary goal.
And then you also get to know about me, which is secondary, but yeah.
But always nice. And speaking of getting to know
a little bit about you, I know you're a dad.
And I have to ask, you know, I have a seven-year-old,
it's really easy to make them laugh, but
does it get harder as the kids get older?
You know what's interesting is I think because of like
social media and stuff like that, like
kids are really old, like they're older in the mind.
Like they get jokes now and you know,
like stuff that you used to be able to say to a
seven year old, you got to, you got to bring it now.
You got to bring, especially if they
are aware of what's going on in the world.
So yeah, my kids, they're easy to make laugh
because you figure out which one, like what
makes them laugh and you just keep going on.
You just dial in on that and just keep hitting it.
And so, yeah, I'm pretty, I'm a pretty big deal in my house.
Oh, must be nice.
Okay.
Before we let you go, I know as we mentioned,
you're doing multiple shows in Tacoma this
weekend.
Anything else you want audiences to know before they go see you live?
No, I mean, I just want you guys to show up and show out.
I think that the world needs laughter
and I think that coming to my shows is a huge
break from all the anxieties and the weirdnesses of the world.
we can just come together
and and giggle with each other, you know what I'm saying, I think that's
such a great way to look at it, yes, go out there
and giggle with Damon Wayans Jr., oh my gosh, thanks
so much for chatting with us
and for bringing Goku along on the ride, okay, I mean you just made
my life so much better by just locking in on that, you
are chef's kiss, oh absolutely my friend, thank
you so much and if you want
you definitely should go see Damon Wayans Jr at Tacoma Comedy
Club this weekend.
