All right, welcome back to Good Day LA. I'm Jen Lammers.
I'm Roxy Karabadian in for Bob. We got to talk about the weather.
That's a beautiful shot though, I will say. It is so pretty.
It's nice. Yeah, the clouds. Lots of cloud cover.
A little bit of a wind. We had some nice rain yesterday.
Actually, we had some downpours, yeah, yesterday.
But we are still looking at rain this morning.
Good morning to you on this Thursday.
I'm meteorologist Maria Albano. Yes,
we are going to zoom in to some of these cells that are following us.
right now. Most of the heavy stuff is out towards
the Inland Empire as we look at just off the 10
and otherwise just kind of some spotty showers.
As we zoom out a little bit, this is all related
to that big area of low pressure that is still spinning.
The center cold core of that system is
just offshore and it's still going to make its way inland.
So that means more instability for us
throughout the day today.
Temperatures definitely on the chilly side. Grab that jacket. It's 57
currently in Santa Clarita, 55 in Granada Hills,
60 in Burbank, 56 out in Pasadena.
Big Bear, 40 degrees, 61 in Riverside, out towards Long Beach at a 63.
It should be around 78 in the Palm Springs area
with that 20% chance for some showers today.
We still have thunderstorms in the forecast,
so don't be surprised if you do get caught in a heavy downpour
or get some lightning there.
65 in the high desert to that 44 eventually in Big Bear.
It's not going to warm up too much more up into the mountains.
68 degrees for downtown L.A.
That is below the average.
We're going to see a mixture of some clouds,
some sunshine, and some pop-ups.
Thunderstorms possible today.
And, of course, we have a slew of those weather alerts still in place.
So I will go over all of that in just a few moments.
In the meantime, let's check in on the drive.
I know Stu's been flying around, dodging some of those raindrops.
But where are you, Stu?
Good morning.
Hey, good morning.
Maria, good morning, everybody.
Take a look at that 15 drive.
Yes.
The rain definitely made its way through here just a few moments ago.
Harupa is where we are.
Harupa area.
I'm going to show you where the clouds may be right now.
It does seem like it's moving off
to the east like Maria was just talking about.
Maybe some rain on that 215.
But the 15 itself definitely still wet
from that heavy downpour that just passed through here.
Headlights, those are going to be northbound.
And the ride does actually look like it's pretty good.
When I say that on wet days, I always worry a little bit.
You guys got to be careful out there.
Watch those speeds, right and left sides of the lanes.
You know, what used to be the fast lane should today
be the let's be extra careful lane
because that's where the puddling happens.
But on that 15 through the Harupa area and also Ontario,
looking really good.
No crashes and moving along well.
Be safe out there, everybody.
Don't know when it's going to start raining where you're at.
Send it back to you all in the studio.
Good morning.
All right, Stu.
Thank you.
So with all this incoming rain,
let's check in on the Long Beach Peninsula.
We have Mario Ramirez there live at the boardwalk with more.
Mario.
Yeah, this area fared pretty well with the storm overnight.
I want to talk to Genevieve.
She's a resident here, and she was actually
at the community meeting last night.
You live on the peninsula.
The rain, it seems like it didn't cause any concerns here,
but we are still in an area where there's lots of damage.
There was some mild flooding in the streets.
I was in the meeting, you know, for like two and a half hours,
So I didn't see a lot of what was going on.
But I walked down there, and on my walk back,
there was quite a bit of rain.
So you needed your boots.
Yeah, yeah, we needed our boots every time we've been out here.
Let's talk about this community meeting last night.
As a resident here, what did you learn from that?
I learned a lot about what they set up to do.
I'm impressed.
It was a lot more than I thought.
So they are doing a lot of work
that we don't hear about every little thing.
but it's just a time fight you know this the raising
of water is going to keep coming and
i don't know if they can get it done in time you know
so were there any questions that you still
had after last night's meeting of course like we're seeing all
this sand being pumped in from
the Alamitos Bay Channel area
and brought here to reinforce this barrier between the ocean and
these homes but was there anything that you left
with still wanting to know they covered they
covered a lot of questions.
There was some top guy from the fire department that covered a lot
of safety issues and, you know, what we need to do to prepare.
It did kind of get me going a little
more to prepare more, but it was really good.
They left a lot of questions. They left it open
to answer a lot of questions.
So as a resident here on the peninsula, what's the next step for
you? What are you doing to prepare for this winter ahead?
Just making sure I have a place to go if
I need to make sure I have that go bag packed
but making sure it's even better um you know
having cash on hand uh i'm gonna raise up
my sandbags a couple of levels stuff like that but
you know i was on uh evacuation watch last time
so if it's worse i figure i'll get evacuated so
just making those plans yeah
so you're on alert for the rest of the season here for the rest of
Yeah, yeah, basically for months, you know.
Well, thanks for talking to us, Genevieve.
And she has a great point, you guys.
If you, you know, live in this area,
be prepared, like she's talking about.
Have a place to go, have a backup plan, have cash on hand,
and just watch for those alerts.
Be prepared to evacuate because
that is a possibility here in this area.
For now, live here along the boardwalk, I'm Mario Ramirez.
We'll send it back to you.
I feel for all those neighbors.
It's just been relentless.
It's frustrating.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Thank you.
This sounds like my white noise machine.
It does.
But look at that. Waves crashed
into homes last night in the San Clemente area.
Crews responded to reports
of a small debris flow causing minor flooding.
This was just south from the Norte Fire burn scar.
This is what it looked like
in the San Bernardino Mountains.
Heavy rain, street flooding, mud flows there.
The rain lasted several hours
and caused street flooding on highways and main roads.
A mudslide at the top of Live Oak Drive
in Running Springs forced a closure just before Highway 18.
Police are revealing more details now about two 15-year-old girls
who were arrested for allegedly planning
a mass shooting at Corona High School.
Police say the girls had a hit list
that included students and teachers.
Over the past couple of months, they have made pretty extensive
plans about coordinating an attack at Corona High School.
that included maps of the campus,
a list of targets, how to acquire weapons,
ways to skirt the law to acquire weapons,
and the specifics about how they would carry out the attack.
Police say the girls sent each other messages
on social media about the alleged plot.
Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram,
red-flagged the conversations and alerted authorities.
Police say revenge appears to be the reason behind the plot.
Students say at least one of the girls was bullied for years.
In seventh grade, one of the girls was getting bullied like really bad.
And then also there was a picture going around
of her and like someone is playing tic-tac-toe on her forehead.
One of the 15-year-old girls, a Corona High School student,
the other a student at Norco High.
Both were arrested October 6th for conspiracy to commit murder.
The man accused of setting
the deadly Palisades fire last year is due in court today.
Jonathan Rinderknecht faces a revised indictment
in which one charge was dropped and the two others were reworked.
His first trial ended in June with a mistrial
when the jurors split on the verdict after 13 hours of deliberations.
This will be the last pretrial conference before
his retrial gets underway.
Also this morning, the California State University system among
a growing number of schools nationwide offering a faster,
cheaper path to a bachelor's degree.
Fox News correspondent, business correspondent Lydia Hugh has more
from Providence, Rhode Island.
Roughly two-thirds of registered voters say they believe
a four-year college degree isn't worth the price.
That's according to polling by NBC News,
and some colleges are listening.
The theme that kept coming up
and up was students wanted to complete faster.
They wanted to be able to get out into the workforce.
A growing number of universities
in the U.S. are offering three-year bachelor programs.
But these programs aren't squeezing four years
of course load into three.
Instead, they're cutting the amount
of electives students need to complete for their degree.
While critics argue the change erodes the quality of education,
administrators at Johnson & Wales University stand
by the shortened time frame.
Whether you're a three-year degree computer science major
or a four-year degree computer science major,
you're taking the exact same sequence of computer science classes.
As of this May, the research group RAND estimates there
to be 119 reduced credit programs in the nation.
I think it's actually making a difference in students
who maybe didn't think about coming to college.
Suddenly it's more affordable.
The average cost to attend a four-year public college
in-state is about $28,000,
while students at private,
non-profit universities spend about $61,000 per year.
Advocates of the three-year degree program point out
the reduced timeline cuts costs.
Getting out of here in three years, it definitely saves money.
That's a very important part of it.
At Johnson and Wales University, the three-year degree
programs include majors in hospitality management,
criminal justice, graphic design, and computer science.
Reporting from Providence, Rhode Island, Lydia Hu for Fox Business.
Starting next fall, the CSU Board of Trustees has approved three
reduced credit degree programs for a Bachelor's of Education,
Professional Studies, and Applied Studies.
The programs are being developed by individual CSU campuses.
The University of California system, meanwhile,
is maintaining the standard four-year degree tracks.
A bit of good news to bring to you this morning.
Pope Leo just got great health news of the Vatican saying he will
not need further treatment for lung cancer.
He did have surgery to remove a nodule earlier this month,
and his personal doctor and surgeon have now confirmed
that the cancer did not spread.
Yesterday, Leo held his first general audience.
Since the surgery in St. Peter's Square,
he's set to visit Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru next month.
Now, the White House trying for a new round
of talks to end the war in Ukraine.
Yeah, Doug Lizader joining us now from Washington with more on that.
Good morning, Doug.
Jen and Aroxia, good morning.
The caveat here is that we have been at this juncture before,
but there does seem to be
a new willingness perhaps to have
these trilateral talks involving the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine,
but the attacks continue.
No apparent slowdown of attacks on Ukraine overnight,
despite what sounded like peace overtures on both sides.
Right now we have to freeze,
and I think this is real way to end this war.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he
is open to freezing the battle lines
where they are to pursue talks,
with Russia in control of a good portion of eastern Ukraine.
But for those who have been watching this war unfold, this is familiar.
He's privately agreed to something like this previously.
The problem is Vladimir Putin has steadfastly refused to do so.
Russian President Vladimir Putin did meet with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff
as part of an effort to win the release
of U.S. hostage Stephen Hubbard.
You are a humanitarian also, sir.
Witkoff raised eyebrows when he called Putin a humanitarian.
But Putin did agree to start a new round
of talks with the U.S. and Ukraine.
I called up Vladimir Putin and I said, you got to do me a favor.
You got to give me back
Stephen Hubbard. President Trump at a rally last night
in South Carolina said his deal making was
behind the release. But that came as he
was campaigning for Darlene Graham, the sister of
late Senator Lindsey Graham,
who had pressed for Russian sanctions that the president has now put
on hold as the fighting in Ukraine rages on.
It rages on and the timing of these talks,
kind of interesting. They're talking about
something after November 10th, which obviously
puts this after the midterm elections,
assuming these talks actually come to pass. But initially,
it sounds like these would be lower level,
what they call technical talks. So it's not like we're
talking about Zelensky, Putin
and Trump sitting around a table together. It may come to that,
but it's not going to start that way. Jen and Araxia.
I mean, speaking of timing on a separate
front, Doug. We're learning that Israel
and the U.S. may be ramping up attacks on Iran after the
midterm elections. Yeah, there's been some reporting
on this that there is something in the works here,
which is certainly possible.
And the president has said a number of times that he thinks there's
going to be some resolution with Iran after the midterms.
We'll see. You know, Russia, in theory,
plays a role in all of this to the extent that all
of this may be connected. You know, Russia
certainly has the ability to lean on Iran.
So does China. But are they really willing to do that?
All right. Well, going back to Russia and Ukraine,
we'll see if this actually leads to something,
if this is a serious negotiation or just more political posturing,
because it just seems like
we're going in circles here at this point.
Yeah, that's right. I mean, you know, we've had these,
you know, these kind of lower level talks before.
They never really came to much of anything. Putin
at times has wanted to exclude Ukraine
from even participating in talks. It looks like if these
talks do happen they will involve all three countries all right more
to come, thank you so
much Doug, talk to you later, thank you, take a short break
be right back, welcome back, both of our NBA
teams had a pretty successful start
to the new season, let's start with the Lakers hosting the
Warriors, money, it was pretty much
like that all night long too
Luka finished with 28 points and
eight rebounds and watch this behind
the back pass, Lakers new center Walker Kessler also had a strong
debut, a lot of hopes riding on him too with 26 points
and nine rebounds, Lakers won it 127 to 105
all right, the Clippers also opened the regular season
at home taking on the Sacramento Kings
and they dominated as well, Darius Garland finished
with 30 points, Clippers win 121 to 96 and will
face the Lakers tomorrow night at Crypto I
was telling Sandra yesterday, now we say Crypto
So, like, without even thinking about it, it took a while to get there.
It was odd to say that at first, right?
It was so odd for a while, yes.
So we made it.
All right, so JetBlue is offering
a unique new service, child-free flights.
Get these kids out of here.
JetBlue Vacations
and Virgin Voyages have introduced a package called Do Not Disturb.
The travel package starts with a flight from JFK
to Fort Lauderdale that's guaranteed to have no children on board.
From there, guests board a child-free,
four-day cruise in the Caribbean.
Wow.
Right?
Packages just went on sale for March 2027,
starting at $2,700 for two people.
A 2023 survey of 1,000 U.S. adults, by the way, found 82%
of those questions said they liked the idea of kid-free flights.
Hey, I used to want that kind of stuff before I had them.
yeah i mean even having kids i still would appreciate
a child free, i wonder how much it
costs, like if it costs more you know yeah it seems like
a luxury if you're if you're if you're
paying if you're willing to it's like a premium service right yeah yeah
so of course you're gonna
be paying more all right we'll enjoy
a high-flying daredevil took a big chance on this day we're
going back to 1797 yeah way back right to the point
that we can't show you pictures just because
there's this the world's first parachute jump wow happened
in france the man leapt from a hydrogen
balloon while more than 3,000 feet above paris and André-Jacques Garnerin
was the first to design
and test parachutes capable of slowing
a high altitude fall the first parachute had a canopy
23 feet in diameter and was attached to a basket
with suspension lines it swung around wildly
during the descent he landed shaken
but unhurt half a mile from the balloon's takeoff site and
then you know what two years later his wife became
the first female parachutist of course whoa can
you imagine being the first no to do that i'm
not no not interested in how that was gonna go
in anything me too no i definitely wasn't
the first in one of those driverless cars i'm not
to be the first and gotta work out
the kings driverless uh flying things yeah definitely right
yeah but uh okay good for them good morning good
for them 1797. i wish sometimes Tony McQueen was
still here because we'd go well how did it look tony
when you saw right right did you cover that
we would do yeah we would
do the uh old old guy joke anywho good morning we've got uh some good
Good stuff here.
We had some rain.
We had nice, for the most part,
no major damage when it came to the rain yesterday.
But we're still on watch.
We are on a flood watch for portions of Santa Monica
and the Santa Monica Mountains for our recently burned hillside.
So you want to stay alert to that because we
do have more rain in the forecast.
So far, though, Ortega Hill out in Ventura County,
the mountains up there, over two inches of rain.
Lytle Creek, an inch and a half.
Beverly Hills, a little over a half an inch.
Oxnard was a record with 0.44, one hundredth of an inch of rain there.
Lancaster, a little over a third of an inch,
also a record for the date.
We're going to take a look at some
of the cells that are out there right now.
We do have some, it looks like freezing rain
and snow up in Wrightwood right now.
Big Bear, same, up above 8,000 feet or so, a little dusting of snow.
We like that.
San Bernardino, just a heavy cell just moved through there.
Parts of the 15 impacted by that and parts of Pomona.
So that's why that flood advisory is still in effect until 8.45.
A lot of that ponding and flooding on the roads.
This includes San Dimas, Glendora,
Laverne, Claremont, Diamond Bar, Walnut.
You might want to wait just
a little bit until all that water drains out.
We do have more showers in the forecast,
so that's why we've got the flood watch that's still in effect
for portions of L.A. County along the coast, Santa Monica Mountains.
We have a flash flood warning right now
for Santa Barbara County for some heavier rain.
And, of course, we do have a wind advisory for the desert communities.
If you're driving east, you're going to encounter some of those wind
gusts and that beach hazard statement for those waves still causing
a lot of problems for those homeowners along the shores in Long Beach.
Some of those beachfront homes really experiencing some
of the strongest effects.
66 in San Luis Obispo today if you're headed north.
If you're headed south to San Diego, 72.
81 in Indio.
If you're headed to the rest of the desert southwest,
look at all of the stormy weather across parts
of Arizona with some tornadoes out there.
The first time they've had a tornado warning in over a decade or so.
Thousand Oaks, we do have a chance for some of that,
actually, with isolated thunderstorms in the forecast.
Some weak tornadoes are not out of the question,
but it is in the forecast.
Temperatures are going to stay cool in the low 60s later
this afternoon, so make sure you grab that jacket.
Anaheim, similar conditions with a mixture of some sunshine
and some clouds, and then some pop-up thunderstorms possible,
a high near 68 at 1 o'clock this afternoon.
All right, let's go back to Stu in Skybox,
get another update on that drive before you head out.
This freeway doesn't look too wet here, Stu, but,
you know, showers are in the forecast for you there, too.
Showers in the forecast everywhere, apparently,
and all the drivers, beware about that for sure.
Skybox traffic brought to us by my home sold.
This time we're taking a look at the 91.
Anaheim is where we are, and I got schooled on that Corona crawl.
We actually flew that 91 from the 15, and oh boy, it is a tough drive
on that westbound lane from about the 15 over to Green River.
Give yourself plenty of extra time there.
This portion right here, it is definitely moving along,
especially if west is your drive.
Take a look at that, but be careful, everybody.
Roadways are wet, so keep those speeds down on purpose today.
Please, headlights, you can see them right there.
Very slow and go on that westbound 91,
making your way through the Anaheim area.
let's take a look at some traffic hotspots hello i'm adrian hernandez
with myhomesold.com and we
want to buy your house cash we save you money
with no commissions no fees no repairs for free
no obligation as-is cash offer go
to myhomesold.com good news time
for some good news now
and a little baseball magic
so when the brewers celebrated their NLCS win at Dodger Stadium yeah
Well, one young fan's excitement, though, really stood out.
Now two strangers are helping him live out a World Series dream.
Ben Hanson has the story.
It was poetic.
Samson Herman, the kid who was excited more than anyone
for the Brewers, his team to win the NLCS.
Now, I got a question for you.
Would you want to go to game two on Saturday?
Yeah, we're going to make it happen for you and your pops.
What do you think?
Gets to go with them.
I was really happy and thankful for them
that they had such kind hearts to give me tickets to the World Series.
Two Milwaukee area business owners, Joshua Meyer and Santiago Sparenza,
bought two World Series tickets, wanting to get them to Samson.
Meyer got the idea from his wife,
who saw the video on Fox 6 and teared up.
When you see a story, when you see the way that he reacted to the win,
I mean, it's a no-brainer.
You know, essentially what we enjoy
to do is to give back to the community the best we can.
And when you give so much but don't expect anything in return,
the blessings are infinite.
Samson has been a Brewers fan his whole life,
passed on from his dad, David. This completes the story,
this is the last puzzle piece.
It's unprecedented that people that we don't know can have this type
of kindness and generosity.
I don't think it would necessarily happen in any other city.
A gift that will bring a father and son closer.
Samson and only 13 years old knows how valuable that is.
I'm just super happy for the experience
that I can experience this because I know lots
of people don't get to and go.
I didn't even know. That is so sweet. I love that. See
the kindness. I know so far. Beautiful story.
All right, let's take a break.
Messing me up.
Good morning.
Welcome to Good Day.
It's 7.30.
one it's thursday correct it is i'm not getting
my days mixed up again it sure is we're talking
about what's in our queue what we're watching yeah yeah
um i've told uh them that you've got
people have watched carrie you gotta watch
the new carrie mike flanagan's carrie on prime
and we love Mike Flanagan because he was he
was the one behind White Lotus right
no that's Mike White Mike White um never he's behind
the Haunting of Hill House and Midnight
Mass ah another good very very good okay you just finished Furious
which i did i loved Furious oh my
gosh Emmy Rossum is amazing amazing watch Crystal Lake
for the season it picks up in the last half
Crystal Lake on Peacock you know i why can't i
just start why can't i just grab me and not let
go that's what i want i don't work for it i don't like
a slow burn i don't like a wait until you get
to episode six right before it gets good i'm like it's
the lake i'm out seven for Crystal Lake you're
like, whoa, I'm not waiting seven episodes for it to be good.
Impatient society.
OK, we can't we're not going to last that long.
That's why I tried to give you The Ex-Wife on HBO.
I watched it.
I was not impressed.
It's not for her, Amanda.
You know what?
Yeah, but yeah, you know what?
I watched it when I start something, I finish it.
That's right.
Let's talk about the rain.
Let's talk about the rain.
Time to watch a show right now at home.
That's what I did.
I watched on your recommendation.
Thank you, Maria.
so good. I really, really enjoyed it.
Yes, it's a good kind of day to catch up, you know, binge,
if you will, on some of those shows.
And as we look at our live camera here in Malibu, it looks
good. Look at some surfers already in the water.
You know, we always say don't get in the water
for at least 72 hours, but they don't listen.
But we do have a mixture of some sunshine and
some clouds today and a little bit of instability.
In fact, I do think the chance for thunderstorms
might be greater today than it was yesterday just
because of a little bit of that sunshine will act
as a trigger and really cause those big towering clouds
to form we've got some heavier cells I'm
going to zoom into parts of that speaking
of thunderstorms look at Oxnard right now this is
just occurring just off the coast
so if you are there make sure you maybe stay in until that cell
passes and dissipates we've got some showers near Malibu
and as we zoom into parts of the inland
And areas like Lake Arrowhead, Crestline,
looking all the way south into Highland off the 10 even.
A line of some heavier showers getting ready
to head east towards Big Bear and Arrow Bear Lake.
So, yeah, it's a good time to stay
in and maybe watch a few shows, if you can.
Yesterday, downtown LA, 19 hundredths of an inch of rain.
Today, we're going to cool it down some more
to 68 as we look at our other highs today.
Not very high, 64 in San Bernardino.
No, that's it.
62 in Santa Clarita.
Make sure the kids bring that jacket.
68 in Santa Monica to 69 in Huntington Beach.
I've got your seven-day forecast coming up,
plus your pictures in today's TV shout-out.
So stay tuned for that.
First, we've got Stu.
Oh, Stewie.
That's a beautiful view.
Thank you for that.
No drama in your department.
No drama.
We'll just take a look at some
of that beautiful sunrise poking through those clouds
and definitely those rays of sun that are coming down.
That's going to be in the City of Orange.
That's where we're headed.
We're going to do the 91 again.
Don't know why we love that 91 so much.
Well, I'll let you know because we're actually making a U-turn
and going back to the 55 and the 22.
Apparently, they got some actual flooding
there and maybe some lanes closed.
We'll have that on your next traffic.
But right now, taking a look at that 91 once again,
it looks good right now.
It seems like the roadway is drying up
a little bit, but don't be fooled.
Maria's been talking about it.
Rain showers are expected throughout the day,
so you might get some more rain right now, though.
Headlights going to be westbound, moving along pretty well.
Eastbound, look at that, you've got a lot of slowing.
Anyway you play it, if you're on the roadway today, be careful.
We're going to check out some flooding in the city of Orange next.
Sending it back to you in the studio.
All right, Stu, thanks so much.
Breaking news in Tarzana.
Federal agents have announced a bust linked
to alleged health care fraud.
Gigi Graciette is live in Tarzana now with that story.
Gigi.
That's right, the FBI and the Department of Justice
moving in simultaneously across the county to make arrests,
including here in this quiet
hillside neighborhood above Tarzana.
You're looking live at the home where Dr. Hani Malek
was taken into custody early this morning,
part of a healthcare fraud sweep. Now, take a look at
the doctor. He's 61 years old.
He's a chiropractor, and he's charged along with his business partner,
78-year-old Dr. Harold Tabai of Anaheim, a cardiothoracic surgeon.
Both doctors indicted
in a $135 million scheme to bill Medicare for what
the Department of Justice says were medically
unnecessary surgeries,
arterial procedures on innocent patients who were convinced, they say,
by the doctors that they needed the surgery.
As alleged in the indictment, Tabai and Malek
billed for those unnecessary
atherectomies. That's an
invasive procedure in which
a bladed catheter is used
to clear plaque from arteries.
In a live interview this
morning with us, attorney,
U.S. Attorney General Bill
Issaily explained.
This morning we executed an arrest
warrant on an indictment.
This gentleman along with a co-defendant
were indicted on a $135 million
fraud scheme where they were
ordering surgeries and performing surgeries
that were medically unnecessary which actually
resulted in people being harmed
and this is the worst type of health care fraud because you have
doctors who are supposed to be doing no harm they
are putting their financial interest again over
the interest of their patients to make money
so they could live at nice mansions like this
now are the patients accused of being
in on this or do these patients actually think that they
needed surgery they're victims in this they
were told by these medical professionals that they
needed this operation.
It's just to clear plaque in your arteries and your legs. And in fact,
they performed it multiple times on the same people.
And so they're victims in this. Again,
this is all just to bill Medicare for millions and millions of dollars.
And this is worth repeating what Bill Asseli said,
that some of the patients who the Department of
Justice says are innocent victims in all of this,
had surgery performed on them by the surgeon
working together with a chiropractor they say multiple times not once
but several times
leaving some of those patients in continuous pain
and keep in mind the department of justice says
they never needed these invasive surgeries
to begin with so they are now worse off than they
were in the beginning when they consulted with the chiropractor
and the surgeon again you're
looking live here in Tarzana, a very rude awakening for neighbors.
As federal SWAT team
members went in, they deployed what is known as flashbangs,
very loud noises. So a lot of the
neighbors here were calling 911 to report
that they thought there was a shooting happening as
their neighborhood was swarmed with federal agents.
Now, later this morning, there is going
to be a briefing for the media where we'll learn more about
the other arrests. They were all
conducted simultaneously, all of them at the same time,
that is to prevent one suspect from calling
another and giving them the heads up.
Reporting live in Tarzana, I'm Gigi Graciette. Back to you.
Yeah, Gigi. I mean, there's an entire team that's involved,
if she can come back. There's an entire
team that's involved when it comes
to putting somebody under for surgeries and prepping them
for the surgery. So you wonder how far this is going to go, right?
That's right. Any surgery
involves multiple nurses, anesthesiologists, medical specialists.
We don't know yet if any
of those other people on the team were in on this,
just like the patients. They are innocent
victims. They were enticed, supposedly.
That's what the indictment alleges. They were enticed
to have this life-saving surgery.
They were also given free transportation, gift cards.
the Department of Justice has quite a file on what happened.
Some of the Medicare patients
were encouraged to switch policies to a better paying policy
so that the doctors allegedly could
get more money. So if you had one type of Medicare insurance,
you were urged to switch to another one
that had a higher payout for the doctors.
All of these, of course, are allegations.
Dr. Malek here, he was taken into custody this morning.
He was heard saying, why are you doing
this why didn't you just call my lawyer he appears
to have known that he was under some type of
investigation because he repeatedly said why didn't you just call
my attorney so uh but he
has been taken into custody you know another thing
that as you're talking about this and we're going
to get more information you think about how important it
is to get that second third opinion
before you actually go through a surgery
or something to do with your health because had
Had they done that, perhaps they wouldn't have gone through with this.
You know, there are two types of patients
and you can't blame them because a lot of
them thought, you know, oh my God, I need to clear plaque.
Plaque in the arteries is one of the most dangerous things
that could lead to a cardiovascular
disease, a heart attack, a stroke, even more.
There are two types of patients.
There's the one who believe wholeheartedly
in their doctors, understandably so.
And then there's a type of patient like me
that gets like five second opinions because
she wants to make sure that if I'm going to have surgery,
it's absolutely necessary.
So yes, getting a second opinion,
especially when it comes to surgery, is always important
no matter how much you trust your doctor.
And you should be able to trust your doctor.
Surgery is a big thing.
It is a big deal.
And this type of surgery to clear plaque,
I mean, that is a big, big deal.
and this is true i mean at its core
these doctors take this hippocratic oath do no harm
you are supposed to be this trusted source i know
and that is just a massive betrayal yeah it really
is um all right more to come obviously we have
so many questions about this gg thank you so much
um we're going to turn over to amanda now yes hello
and good morning hello and good morning
i have to say i'm loving this 90s look
that you have going love a slip dress of course thank you
so much glad they're back yeah me too yeah you look good thank you i
also got a haircut yesterday
oh i'm sorry i hadn't noticed you look good
thank you some more layers how was your day
i've been to some entertainment sponsored by yamaba resort
and casino oh this one this one
really grabbed onto my heart there's gonna
be a new documentary about Friends star Matthew Perry
it's hitting Netflix next week October 27th
and we're learning some behind the scenes bittersweet
news straight from the star's sister about one
very iconic scene I love you any surprises to
come our way it's okay because I will always love you you
are the person I was meant to spend the
rest of my life with you want to know if I'm sure oh
so in one of her first interviews since Matthew
Perry's death three years ago his sister Mia Perry Bowick
is reflecting on her late brother's life
and legacy and his character Chandler
and Courtney Cox's character Monica when
they got married in season seven
of Friends she says that Matthew had just
gotten out of rehab and she says that his drinking
and drug use had escalated
between seasons five and season seven
so in those between those two seasons it
got really out of hand sharing
with People magazine quote we all knew how
serious his disorder was so there
was this sense of who knows what's gonna
happen watching that wedding we all knew he wanted
that in life he wanted a partner he wanted kids
and as you know you know he never did get married
and he never did end up having children so
reflecting on that scene Mia shares it was really hard
for their family yeah to see that but also
recognizing I mean he was showing up
to work every day despite battling what he was going through it
was a very private struggle that later on you know much later
on in his life became public of course
And I also want to highlight that a lot of his friends,
friends and co-stars knew about his struggle.
And it was the hottest show on TV at the time.
And they were very, very discreet.
And no one really knew about it at the time.
And so loyal, too.
Yeah.
Heartbreaking all around.
We have some happy question mark news.
I guess it's always happy when someone is about to get married.
Oh, Billy.
Oh, Billy.
This is some news about Melrose alum Andrew Shue.
He is engaged and normally we would be like,
yeah, yeah, but let's go back to the beginning.
His fiance, she looks familiar.
She's immigration attorney Marilee Fiebig.
It's been an unusual love story to say the least,
okay, because they each used to be
married to someone else very, very famous,
very popular Amy Robach, TJ Holmes.
You might remember this- Yes, who just got engaged, right?
They just got married.
No, they just got married.
They just got married.
They just got married.
Yeah, they actually went public
with their romance years ago after there was rumors that
they were having an affair with each other.
Shu was married to Amy Robach for many years,
they had children together, and now it's basically
like wife swap.
It is.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
TJ Holmes, former partner,
is engaged to Amy Robach, former partner.
And we knew they started dating pretty much right after
the whole thing blew up, right?
It was a year after.
A year after Amy and TJ went public,
Andrew and Marilee started dating.
Right.
So Amy and TJ are ahead of them being married,
but now Andrew and Marilee are engaged.
I have so many questions.
What are the holidays going to be like?
What do their children think about this?
That's really interesting for the kids.
Imagine like going between the two homes and like
you're gonna have both your parents essentially in each of those.
So you know I stay on TikTok.
Okay, I basically have a timeshare on TikTok.
This is alleged and the people
on TikTok have posted video after video sharing that they have
have a theory behind this god bless you thank you
that maybe they were allegedly people on tiktok
saying maybe they were all in it from the start all
in it like swing swing oh the pineapple express
come and knock on our door come
and knock on our door oh that is what i mean because it's
certainly possible it's certainly possible imagine
no no no i'm just gonna do this so
people can really wrap their head around it
okay they have i want to remind people they
were co-workers they had went on double dates
when they were married to their ex-spouses okay
imagine you and jen going on double dates i have to put you two in it
because i have to marry okay
okay go you and jen going on double dates with your husband
and then she's making googly eyes
and i'm making googly eyes and then you start dating dr j
and she starts dating mr roxia and
then you guys switch i mean wild i just they've had
to have talked about this right do they have
they all gotten into a room together they had
with a therapist right for the children because
there are children involved there are children involved
and they're oblique and here's the
thing like if i were in that situation i would want
to talk about it as much as possible to make
it less awkward because you know everyone's going
to have to get together because again
the holidays are coming the holidays okay let me ask you
a very hard question real quick before
we get to our poll if this is a very hypothetical
if you were to have your husband leave you for
someone else would you rather it be a stranger
or someone you know I would rather the call come
within the house you want someone you know yes why yes
because I know them it's like the it's
like for the children it's like the enemy that you know
or there's just something I don't want
to know there's something comfortable with that because I know you
because I know you accept this
rose right right but that would wouldn't
that drive you crazier no it actually wouldn't she
trust you with her child yeah well that like i know you're
a cool person wow i'm not gonna be
as i wouldn't have taken
your husband say thank you roxia there you go that's a big compliment
from jen over there right right yeah i'm
not saying i would let you take my husband is what
I'm saying but if you did, she's like I throw some hands I would
be less hurt than if some like
Jane Schmoe on the street
or to take my man well that's what our poll is Jen so thank you for
Jane Schmoe-ing it over here.
Could you set your ex up with someone you know?
Now, we know someone who's done this.
Our producer says that her boyfriend
was a best man in two of his ex's weddings.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Wee-woo-woo-woo-woo.
Go to foxlayer.com.
Please leave us a comment.
We've got to keep talking about it.
We'll go to Stu and let me try to understand what you just said.
Tell us your stories.
All right, Stu, over to you.
Hey, good morning.
Sky Fox traffic brought to us by Morgan and,
I'm sorry, Jacoby and Myers.
And I did the breaking news thing as well.
Yeah, this is definitely some storm damage
happening out here, City of Orange.
Hillside came down, and it's creating some traffic issues.
You can see Caltrans out there trying to clean this up,
put that hillside back up on the hill.
Where is all this happening?
Well, this is a transition road.
This is going to be southbound 55 to the westbound 22.
Now, the southbound 55 side closed, but the northbound side still open.
That's going to be the northbound 55 to the westbound 22.
Those guys, they're going to get their cars a little dirty.
Thank goodness they didn't wash it because of the rain.
But take a look at this.
This has been going on for a minute.
Probably going to be here for at least a couple more hours.
So keep that in mind if it's part of your drive.
And also still showing you some of that storm damage.
Let's take a look at some traffic hotspots.
If you've been injured in an accident,
Jacoby and Myers will fight for the justice you deserve.
And if we don't win, you won't pay a penny.
We have earned the trust of tens of thousands of clients.
Jacoby and Myers, because everyone deserves justice.
And welcome back to you.
I'm meteorologist Maria Quoban.
Good day LA weather is sponsored by My Home Sold.
What a beautiful view.
Lots of clouds out there.
Kind of dry at this moment here in Santa Monica.
But that chance for showers will continue.
Additional rain for us as we move through the day today
and even a portion of tomorrow.
If you are traveling today,
perhaps going to New York City, a high of just 67 there.
Same for Washington, D.C., 62 in Boston.
We do have that nor'easter that was officially named
by the National Hurricane Center as now.
Subtropical storm Josephine winds did increase up to 65 miles an hour.
So up and down the eastern seaboard still experiencing a lot
of that swell, those swells that are being generated by Josephine.
Josephine going to eventually move to the northeast,
but the effects will still be felt here in the east
and northeast through at least tomorrow.
and the first part of the weekend.
So if you're traveling to that part of the country,
you can expect those effects.
Otherwise, for here in the West,
we've got an area of low pressure
that is in control of our weather.
This is a colder storm.
So we've got a cold upper level low pressure system
pulling up some of that warmer
or at least subtropical air,
combining the two with a little bit of sunshine.
We're going to look for a chance
for some thunderstorms today.
Here is one of our computer models.
You can see how we do get some scattered showers
throughout the day today into this evening.
So some areas may see some dry conditions
and then all of a sudden a pop-up shower or a thunderstorm.
That's going to be the kind of day we have today.
Most of the rain will end by tomorrow.
However, that being said, some remnant moisture could still be around,
especially out towards the inland areas
in the mountains and the foothills.
And then eventually the rest of the weekend looking good.
I think by Saturday, Sunday, whatever you have planned outdoors,
high pressure will be in control.
And we'll get a slight offshore flow,
which will actually help to warm us up a little bit
starting Saturday, Sunday into the early part of next week.
How much more rain can we expect?
All right, so the additional rainfall, not a whole lot,
maybe a third of an inch in Burbank,
four-tenths of an inch in Pasadena,
perhaps an inch or so over San Bernardino,
a little bit more if we get some of those thunderstorms
and those heavier downpours,
which, by the way, it's raining pretty good right now
in Santa Barbara County.
We did have that flash flood warning
that's still in effect until about 9.15.
Portions of Ventura County with that flood advisory,
some heavier cells moving in to Ventura County
and we do have flood watches still for portions of
the off of the 15 and out towards
the Inland Empire there's that flash flood warning picking
up some of that lightning as well off near
the coast of Ventura County beach hazard statement
still in place we've kind of had that now for the last several weeks
so if you are in and around
the coast you're going to see some
of the damage there especially in Long Beach we have a wind
advisory that is in effect until this evening.
If you're driving out towards the Coachella Valley
off the 10, some of those wind gusts getting up
to 50 plus miles per hour. Here's our seven-day
forecast. As you can see,
we do improve significantly as we get to Saturday. Maybe
20% chance for some showers along the coast tomorrow.
Same for downtown LA, inland Orange
County, 68 below average.
Then we'll get to the average highs as we get to the weekend with
plenty of sunshine. Valleys, Inland Empire, 71 degrees.
Up in the mountains, maybe a little bit
of snow up above 8,000 feet,
but those isolated thunderstorms is expected as well in the mountain
location. So if you're headed up to Crestline,
Lake Arrowhead, Wrightwood, Big Bear, you could
get some of those heavier downpours.
78 degrees in Palm Springs today, and look at the weekend.
Gorgeous in the upper 80s with plenty of sunshine.
But today, some scattered showers. All right,
let's do some TV shout-outs before you walk out the door.
