A photographic reinterpretation of the classic fairy tale in which Weimaraner dogs play the characters and photography by photographer William Wegman.

William Wegman's Little Red Riding Hood forms part of his Fay's Fairy Tales series, in which his Weimaraner dogs become the principal characters in classic children's stories. First published in 1993, the book features Fay Ray, Wegman's long time canine collaborator, portraying Little Red Riding Hood through a sequence of carefully staged colour photographs. Rather than illustrating the story through drawing or painting, Wegman uses costume, props and photographic tableaux to reinterpret the traditional fairy tale, combining narrative photography with performance and visual humour.

The photographs retain the familiar structure of the original story while transforming it through Wegman's distinctive approach to portraiture and staging. By placing the Weimaraner's in human roles, he explores the relationship between photography, fiction and anthropomorphism, creating images that function simultaneously as narrative illustrations and conceptual photographic works. Little Red Riding Hood remains one of Wegman's best known publications and reflects his wider contribution to contemporary photography, demonstrating how the medium can reinterpret familiar stories through constructed imagery, precise composition and the expressive presence of his dogs.
