Hey guys the call I got for you today
is a no cooling call at an elderly care apartment complex
trying to get
in the trash.
So here we go.
All right this is
the one in question.
Inside it's
running. It has a float switch
or water sensor
but I did not see a light on it.
All right let's break
out the meter.
This has
a cover on it
so I can't see if
the contactor
is pulled in.
All right I am
getting a call let me see
if this switch here is open it is and
that's likely my low pressure switch
so let's check
it real quick
1.4 psi that's
pretty bad
so let's
break out
the nitrogen
maybe
a little
bit of freon first i'm gonna pressurize with nitrogen
and see if we hear anything because
that's
pretty bad
all right
let's see 46
psi let's
pump it up
a little
more
certainly
don't
want
that i
hear
anything
i need
that to
stop
seeing
anything
wet
let's go
take i'm
up to
91 psi
let's see if we hear anything inside i'm not sure i've
been to this apartment pump it up a little
bit more
let's go
in there
okay
i did
not hear
anything
and i'm
not
seeing
oil but
i am
going
to do a leak search right here see
if we can't find something that's an awful lot to leak out
i
hope
there's
enough
refrigerant
in
there
to
detect
a
leak
i
think
we
found
one
because
there's no TXB on this this has been replaced at least once before okay
so i put the leak detector
where the line sets go in at the bottom
and i did pick up something and i thought i saw a little bit
of oil sheen or something shiny
right now don't always mean oil
because it rained yesterday but
means I'm going to take
a deeper look at this
down there you know I
hooked my probes up down
there
does
seem
like I'm
picking
up
something
is it
just
for me
hooking
up my
probes
I see
anything
on that
coil
just
be from
yeah
that
might
just
be from
hooking
this up
if I
do the
coil I'm going to replace
these anyway but I'm
not finding another source
of problems there was
very little freon in there I'm surprised I was able
to pick up what I did all right on that one
i'm pretty sure she's getting a new coil instead of a new air handler
so we'll be back we have
made it back this
system is likely
to be completely out
no pressure left
and if there
is anything in
it's
mostly
nitrogen
as
y'all
see
on
this
there's
no
way
to
right
here
so
i'm
gonna
have
to
unsolder
that
and
i'll
cut
it
down
here
there's
a
little
bit
of
pressure
left
in
it
it's
loose
we
just
need to unsolder it right there i got that turned
on set the braze open this side up this side up
we
should
be good
to go
something
seems
to be
there
we go
all
right
let's
unbraze
that
lovely
we're gonna try
this again i must
have left it open or
something and all
my i said lean right
now
this
little
piece
soldered
in
that's
all the
soldering
i'm
gonna
have to
do all
right
let's
get a
piece
cut and
get it
bent
put it
in
there a
little
past 90
so we
need
to just
trim
it and
swager y'all wondering what tool this is that i used
to bend the three eights that's it right
there i don't think yellow jacket has this model number anymore
but you may be able to find one
that
is
similar
there
we go
oh
this
is
all
scrap
that'll
do
though
let
me
try
to
get
this
where
y'all
can
see
it
to
me
this
is
marking
one
of
these
is
important
because
um
the
coupling
does
not always stop the copper from going all the way through
and you can push it too far and then
the other piece of copper will
um not have enough room to grip see
that one stopped but look at this
see how far i pushed it it does have a roll stop
right there but but as you see it can easily go
past it
all right
that's
ready
to go
there we
go all we
got to do
is plug it
up inside
hook
up the
liquid
line
and
no
brazing
inside
watch
this
good
to
go
it
already
has
the
o-ring
and
the
piston
in
just don't lose the
o-ring this does
not all that time
y'all were facing
down all right
what i was
trying to show you is that the o-ring
and the piston are already in this it comes with this
and this little glass piece right here take
those off leave the o-ring leave
the piston in it and
that's
as
tight
as
we
need
so
this
is
dried
in
we
gotta
go
do
a
dryer
outside
i
guess
it's
interesting to see how that works it pushes
that piston up in these balls excuse me those bearings
push
push
that
this
way
let
me see
put
this
back
together
and
then
we're
gonna
pressure
test
it
open this back up put it
to test open up both
of these and see how much
pressure we're getting
70 psi let's see
if we can pump
it to 200
and um we'll
watch it for a
little bit all
right we're
at 207 and about 209.9 i'm letting
that settle just a little bit
let's see how it does all right
that um that held
let's get
our vacuum
started we got
ballast turned on
let's see how we do
to do now
is wait take
time to get
something
to drink down
to about 850
microns it's
only been
about five to six minutes
this thing's been running
a little bit of oil right here i'm
leaving this out
getting there just
a little bit longer
that still has
not timed out on me
Has now taken we're at about 30 minutes now
It's struggling
to get under 500
microns about time.
Let's watch that
for a little while.
It is
one excuse me
About 11 22 so far. We're doing
pretty good after about six minutes
That's as far as I've gotten so I'm fixing to turn this one off
so I don't damage my micrometer gauge
Open that one start pressurizing
what I need to do though
is start measuring what
I'm putting in zero that
out zero I don't think there's a whole
lot more than vapor in here just a
little bit of liquid
let's see how many ounces
are we supposed to have
battery charge ounce
14 140 there we go
now we're getting
to vapor I'm gonna
empty this and we'll put our Schrader's
in we seem to have stopped it right at
36 ounces now
that off
by the way i've
heard people
mention
i'm using
ProPress
that's not
ProPress these are RLS fittings ProPress
is mostly for plumbing and not meant for high
pressures
like
this
36
ounces
zero
all
right
we're
right
at
four
ounces
so
that
puts
me
at 40
ounces
i'm gonna zero
again because
we need to get to
100 any time for
those switch to
close it might
not be calling anymore in there let's go run
in and check real quick all right it needs to come
on what's what's holding
me up here first let's see
if we're getting a call
through the switch
well we got
it now we got
an outdoor
temperature
of 76.5 i need
this to get
to 100 and we
should
be good to go i'm gonna make you
wait the whole time okay we're
now at 100 ounces see if y'all
can see this 134 suction 43 degrees superheat
look at my sub cooling 40 degrees that though
is not what we're charging by because we have
a piston 280 psi a head pressure suction line
temperature coming
back is 90 degrees
no it ain't that ain't
right at all degrees
that was not even
close that's more
like on 60 degrees
still saying 88
degrees i can
feel that's nice
and cool
very
cool got
a green
light
on it that
temperature
is not
right
no wonder
i got them
backwards
all
right we got a green light two degrees sub cooling
six degrees superheat that's more like it so we're
gonna leave it right there well guys that one took
a little bit longer than i thought it should have
because pulling down under 500 microns took me longer than i expected
but um that one's finally
done it's actually been about 10 days
in the making i had to order the coil and then it was
a couple a weekend went by before i could put it
in thanks for watching i'll catch y'all in the next
one all right let's see there's
one two and this makes three of
those coils that i've done in the
last couple months.
