Shelley Hanna Painter USA 1964

Shelley Hanna (USA 1964) grew up in Lodi and graduated in 1991. In 1998, she enrolled at San Joaquin Delta College as an adult with a family. Returning to college in the 1990s, she felt very unprepared, and it was this experience that motivated her to design much of her own curriculum, breaking down information, structuring steps, and empowering students to succeed through renewed confidence in their abilities. Her primary goal is to prepare students for the rigors of college-level reading and writing. In 2001, she transferred to California State University (CSU), Sacramento, to pursue a bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies. After working as a substitute teacher for five years, she realized that her true passion was teaching at the university level. In 2005, she graduated from CSU, Sacramento, where she majored in Liberal Studies and English. In 2007, she earned her California Teacher Credential from CSU Stanislaus. In 2009, she earned her Master of Arts in English Literature and a Certificate in Composition Teaching from CSU Sacramento. She worked for SUSD for ten years at César Chávez High School and, in 2011, began working as an adjunct professor at San Joaquín Delta College. After ten years as a high school teacher, she possesses a unique perspective on the challenges many students face in their transition from high school to college, especially regarding reading and writing. She is an avid reader who enjoys discovering the wonders of the written word and greatly enjoys observing her students' transformation.
