So I absolutely love calisthenics and working with bodyweight to build strength and muscle. Bodybuilders are some of the strongest people too though - so I decided to try some of their workouts and mix it up with my bodyweight training. A hybrid workout taking the best of both worlds - let’s see how effective it actually is!
I’ve also launched my new site with monthly programs that come with video walkthroughs so you can follow along with me in your workouts - best part- you get to choose your path: HOME or GYM
Welcome back to another video. We are finally not sick anymore.
The doc cleared me two days ago.
She said you are no longer contagious
and that means I can get back to the workouts. Now today
I am bringing you all along with me for a hybrid chest workout.
So we are going to be doing bench
press. We are going to be doing a ---- ton of push-ups.
We're going to be doing some harder
versions of push-ups and mix it all up.
My favorite things calisthenics and then we're
gonna mix in some gym workouts some machine work
and show you guys how you can get a nice
chest workout in doing the best of both worlds now let me
be the first to apologize to you all
uh if my voice does crack and break
because i have been sick unfortunately we all got hit with
pink eye the kids brought it home from school
but uh it ran through the whole family and everyone
got sick um i had a sore throat both my eyes
were swollen shut at one point but we are back to 100
percent i'm gonna take my pre-workout
and we are gonna go hit that chest day this by the way not a
sponsored video but this is Valhalla i picked
this up at the Fit Expo i think they're a new
company they're up and coming kind of viking theme
the Valhalla name um check them out it's good
stuff bottoms up let's go chest day now one thing
i'm always self-conscious about especially when
i'm going out and working out in public somewhere
is did i put on deodorant do i need to put on
deodorant because you do not want to be that guy that has ******* BO
and stinks up the whole place
right so definitely always make sure you smell
good before going out guys don't be that guy
all right let's go now today I want
to do a little bit of a Q&A while we drive over
so questions that
I get in my comment sections in my DMs uh
for fitness related stuff I'm gonna go over that
with you guys i'll answer a few questions
on the drive over we'll chat tell you guys about some
stuff and then once we hit the gym once we get
to the gym we're gonna hit it now i want to tell you
guys about my Discord server the Fit from Home
den that i started we've got several hundred people
in there already it's pretty active i really enjoy it
because it gives you a chance to ask
questions and you know it's easier for me to go in there
and answer questions so check it out if
you're interested join the discord come join
the community let's grow together and make those gains
ah the pre-workout starting to kick
in i haven't even gotten there yet face is all tingling if you
take pre-workout you know what i'm talking about now one
of the top questions that i've been getting
is about um rest rest days and rest recovery time between sets
so when you're working out you guys
want to be taking between two
and five minutes between each set if you are really pushing the
intensity on those exercises you're going
to that muscular failure two to five minutes otherwise
your muscles will not be fully recovered before getting
into the next set now rest days if you
are training intensely like for example i hit legs two days ago
my legs are still sore as ----
i cannot sit on the toilet or walk up
or down the stairs without having some sort of pain
you do not want to be training
the muscles after you work them out intensely you do not want to be
training them the next day guys you do not want
to be breaking that muscle tissue down any further
so you want to take 48 to 72 hours off after you work out
to let those muscles repair and rebuild
because you are damaging muscles
when you train guys you are basically i want you to just imagine
punching yourself in the leg repeatedly
for an hour right you're going to be bruised you're going
to be hurt now go the next day
and punch yourself again that's basically what you're doing if you're
not taking the rest days you're not going to recover
and your muscles are not going to rebuild
uh properly so definitely take two to three days off
of a worked muscle group if you are training
at that intense level um to let them repair
and rebuild another big question that i get is how
many days a week should i train
and honestly guys there is no blueprint there is no perfect
blueprint one size fits all for everybody
if you train i want to say if you train three days a week
minimum you are good to go that is probably
if it's like around 30 minutes to 40 minutes maybe
an hour three times a week that is plenty
because if you are training intensely you are engaging
enough muscles you are pushing yourself out
of your comfort zone you will see results you will
build strength you will build muscle any amount
that you start with you can build off of that so
if you're if you know if you're
a complete beginner you've never started training before
even one day a week 20 minutes 15 minutes
a day 15 minutes a week whatever something is going to
start building into something bigger as long
as you stick with it and you are consistent it's
better than doing nothing does that make sense do you agree
or disagree i want to know in the
comments okay we finally made it
to the gym we're gonna go get warmed up now warming up super
important especially before you start doing
an intense workout you never want to start cold
usually i get my shoulder blades kind of moving
and rotating only because i've been dealing with
a shoulder injury on this one
so for the warm-up usually i will start with about 60 to 100 push-ups
just to kind of get my blood flowing
and get the muscles engaged now usually before i start
getting into heavier weights on the bench press
on the flat bench i'll start with a light set
just to warm up my chest further especially
on the movement before getting into that heavier stuff
on the movement itself i think it's super important
to focus on lighter weights sometimes
before just diving right into the heavy stuff especially
if you're trying to improve your form
and just build a deeper connection through
that exercise with your muscles all right here we go
with the first set nice and light just get
that proper positioning set up right here i like to go
nice and slow and just really feel the muscles work stretch
on the bottom here contract on the
top and i'll just do like six to eight light reps
just really focusing on those muscles working
now currently four plates 225 is about my working weight
so i can comfortably do you know three sets
10 reps here at this weight it's a good weight that still challenges me
but isn't you know
overly challenging where I'm struggling
to get like three to four reps so I can knock out my
10 reps here I'm still focused and overload
my muscles on that weight so what I'll do is I'll
do like three to four sets on one
of those sets I'll go over 225 slightly just to test it a little
bit go three four reps on that weight 225 is my current working weight
so I'll hit like three
good sets of that eight to ten reps we're moving
on into a calisthenics exercise for the next one
i think guys if you're in the gym re-rack
your ---- don't leave it for somebody else to have
to clean up your weights after you you should
be old enough to clean up your own goddamn mess at
this point so rack your ----
and what i'll do next is i'll pick a style of push-ups that i want to
focus on something you know more than just regular push-ups
because i did a ton of those already
so I'll either do slow-mo eccentric concentric
focus push-ups or I'll do explosive reps and I'll
do three sets about 20 reps
so for this one we're going to do explosive just really focus
on exploding up on every rep you shouldn't be doing that many
because you're hitting all these
other chest exercises. Your chest should already
be pretty fatigued especially to do explosive but
I like pushing those limits really pushing
my muscles out of their comfort zone. Okay next up
we're going to move on to incline chest press.
If you really want to build that chest aesthetic
and build that big looking chest incline bench press is the bread
and butter to that. That's
going to be your best bodybuilding exercise if you want
a good looking chest. I'm going to start with
70s work my way up to like 85
probably i'll hit three sets on the
incline bench one of those will
be extremely heavy for like three to four rep max two
of those will be working sets for me 8 to 12
reps at a decent weight that i can hit that rep range
at one thing i like to do is i'll go a
little bit lighter so for example here i got a 55
but i'll just grab one dumbbell and i know people
will say it's repetitive it's the same ---- for me it's not i feel
when i do one side i gotta engage
the core a little bit here obviously this focuses the chest
but this way I can go a little bit
deeper on my reps unilaterally feeling that chest work here
and really just kind of like focus in on
that muscle mind connection
and I'll just work both sides equally full range of motion on each
back to push-ups now we're gonna do kind
of similar to that dumbbell one dumbbell press
I'm gonna hit some archer push-ups
and I like the archer because you get that deep
Rep and you're using just one side of your chest.
You're only helping a little bit with the other side
So archer push-ups kind of wide angle
Hands slightly pointed outward and keeping those elbows back.
I'm gonna press down and press up and I like these
more
Than I like for example
Traditional one-arm push-ups where you're here.
You're kind of like twisting your body
I feel like the archer hits the chest a little bit better
and triceps of course so archer push-ups
I'll hit three sets about 10 reps before moving
on to the next exercise now since we're doing
archer push-ups I did get one guy asked me uh several times
in several videos to do a archer
push-up tutorial so archer push-ups I'll show you guys
from the front you want I like my hands
faced outward slightly
and then what you're basically going to do is you're going to come
down on one side kind of like
a one-arm push-up essentially you're just doing this this arm's
helping a little bit slight bend press up
and then down make sure that elbow is kind of angled back
because if you're angled out like
this it's gonna feel weird you're gonna feel a lot of strain on
that shoulder you want the elbow back like
this if you're not ready for do it from the knees it's
the same thing just a little bit easier
because it's less weight practice the form until you get
it and then work your way up to the feet
from the side should look like this see how my elbows are
kind of slightly back not all the way out here like this here
so don't flare out keep it here
when you press like this rather than
this you don't want that internal shoulder rotation all
right some more machine work i like to hit
my chest flies make sure i get a nice stretch here
um so you know i don't like starting here where
a lot of guys will just crank out those reps
i like to go deep get a nice stretch
in my chest before i reach up into that full contraction so
So here, squeeze and let it back.
Squeeze, nice, slow, eccentric release.
Get that deep stretch.
As soon as I hit that stretch,
back to full contraction.
Nice squeeze.
And I'll do about three sets here, eight to 10 reps.
Don't cheat any of these exercises.
Just lower the weight, guys.
Nobody gives a ---- how much weight you're moving.
You should be working with a weight
that is difficult enough to get those reps in,
but not too difficult where you have to cheat your form
mess it up and this applies to calisthenics
and weightlifting do it right if you can't do it right
revert to a lighter weight or an easier variation now i like to finish
and i just like to get max
rep set of push-ups whether that's 20
at this point 30 40 50 whatever that is until my form
breaks down i'm gonna press yeah
and if you guys enjoyed the video smash that like smash that
