Emotional moment this afternoon in Philadelphia as the widow of fallen
police officer Shane Sieber places her hands on his police SUV.
A stark reminder of the reality family members
of officers sometimes have to face in the worst case scenario.
Officer Sieber was fatally shot in the line of duty during
an ambush in West Philly more than a week ago.
Today the first of two public viewings, his loved ones, fellow members
of law enforcement and the community all coming out to pay tribute.
Shawnette in this time of tremendous grief. The show of
support for Officer Sieber and his family is truly touching.
Extremely touching, Sieber. Many people
came out tonight from 6 to 9 o'clock for a public viewing
and many of them with heavy hearts over
the loss of Officer Shane Sieber.
The widow of Philadelphia Police Officer Shane Sieber, seen
here outside Gibnis Funeral Home in the Northeast,
touching her husband's patrol car. It happened
during the viewing for her husband
who was killed on the job October 10th. This is the solemn show
unity and support by Philadelphia Police
Commissioner Kevin Bethel and other top
law enforcement. They walked from Archbishop Ryan High School to the
funeral hall. They were followed
by the 19th Police District, FOP, and recruits.
Then there was a moment of silence.
Our goal here today is to show his family
that he was part of something, you know, special.
Commissioner Kevin Bethel talked
about Officer Sieber's accomplishments.
He was an individual who served two
tours in Iraq and came to the city
and always wanted to be a cop he says what happened requires
a tremendous amount of support for the department especially the women
and men of the 19th district
where Officer Sieber worked unfortunately this is the fifth officer
who had been shot in a very
short period of time and then they're losing Shane
so it's been a lot going down over this past year
these pictures put together
in a memorial show Officer Shane Sieber behind the badge
a husband and father to two young children
his wife Lisa a fourth grade school teacher
many of our survivor families
and spouses are here today to be able to support her many of them
understand the path she's on now Walt Smith
and Michael Mullen are retired Philadelphia
Police Department detectives
who say it was their duty to come out for the public viewing that ended
the night myself my wife my friends my children
are all in the police department and I'm going
going to support them whatever way I can possibly do it
and if it's coming out to a viewing I'm
coming out. I feel deeply about deeply
for the sorrow of the officer's family and hope this
will be the last and know it will and I know it won't be.
All right and Commissioner Bethel also
told us tonight that Officer Sieber's partner Officer Hector Rodriguez
is making progress. He
says he's doing extremely well.
Sheba talking and walking a bit of course after he was shot
12 times. Yeah, that was definitely some positive news to hear
from the police commissioner today. Thank you, Seanette.
