Keeping one is another story.

For weeks, a determined roan stallion named Ayita has been shadowing the band, constantly testing Night Hawk and looking for an opportunity. Persistence might be Ayita's greatest strength... and Night Hawk's biggest headache.

Whenever Ayita gets too close, Night Hawk steps in to defend his mares.

But this isn't simply a story of a hero and a villain.

When a bachelor band of four young stallions suddenly arrives, something fascinating happens. Instead of joining the newcomers, Ayita turns to face them, chasing them away and helping keep the bachelors from reaching the mares.

For a brief moment, the two rivals share the same objective. Another stallion taking over doesn't benefit either of them.

It's a reminder that life in the wild is rarely black and white... or roan.

While the stallions settle their disputes, the band carries on as if nothing is happening. The mares graze peacefully, the foals play and nap, and the family paws at the earth in search of minerals, completely trusting that someone is standing watch.
