Halloween looks for under $100

Welcome back everybody. So a good Halloween costume does not need to cost a lot. That's right. We have Lauren Sturridge here with Donna Wheeler from Madame D's Vintage Clothing and Jewelry with some looks for under a hundred bucks. Ladies and gentlemen, these are amazing because they're really good quality. Yes. Yeah. I mean, these big box stores, it's all polyester and it's, we were laughing in the car that it doesn't, it says something about non-flame retardant. We get nervous and, you know, kind of just want to push people more towards not only supporting local but just more quality and creativity and expression yes and you can these are unmatched very clearly and you can use them again they're not just a one and done you could use the dresses any of the dresses any of the headpieces can we move down the line here and kind of go through how you curated each look for each so that viewers can kind of get an idea of how to approach this yeah so this is a Spartan warlock and this is actually a 19 what'd you say 1970s a velvet cape and we just have some vintage leather accessories and we really and we just really got into character with this I mean this is very simple to recreate and we actually featured this in our fashion show last uh last month so this was something we wanted to repeat but it's beautiful it's very cool the embroidery it's very different you'll never see anything like this so Beth is wearing an orange vintage look inspired uh tiered it's called cupcake tiered dress and it's all voile we thought it's something different from the black witchy look oh yeah we wanted something pumpkin orange this time with that kind of a feather crow feathered hat and um if you can turn around a little bit you can kind of see a little bit of the bag it has a little bit of a train on it i love the netting that you guys did too with the little spiders on there that's perfect just kind of gives a cool take on a modern day witch with some more color with some more vibrance and again a vintage touch so and that's the thing with shopping with you guys too because you can really help put the look together with accessories um and find these pieces yeah it just makes it different it just makes it more unique and stand out and i feel like halloween has got a little cookie cutter you know you just grab and go and i'm like no we need to get back to making halloween costumes fun again so that's what we're kind of here doing and then we have tiffany she is a beautiful rendition of cleopatra um her hair is all natural which we are all jealous of so gorgeous yes and so it just was really fun with all the gold accessories and that's a really fun that's a really simple dress to be honest so it's a Grecian piece and you know you can wear that for a party or an outing or yeah anything and now the jewelry too was that all vintage as well yes the the necklace that she has on is a 70s piece it's awesome it looks very it looks very Egyptian, it really is not, it's it's more modern in that, in that era, the headpiece I'm not so sure about because she won that in an auction, she brought it along but the bangles are from India those are all gold bangles, I love the cuff that she has on too, those are all, those are all in my store, I've got tons and tons of vintage uh accessories and clothing to make it look, you know and again stuff you could re-wear and bring from home, you know, she brought that from home and so there's things you can kind of go in your own closet and save yourself some money and you know kind of throw things together and that's where you really get creative, so we love that, I want Marilyn Monroe in my closet, Trina is the perfect Marilyn and when I asked her to do this, she says Would you like to be Little Red Riding Hood? I said, no, Marilyn Monroe, you've got it all gone And this was actually almost an identical copy of the dress that she wore, Marilyn Monroe wore, to sing Happy Birthday to President John F. Kennedy. We were going to come with a cape but we didn't know if anybody would come with that It's iconic Yeah, and Trina's a professional model so she does pretty good 1940s looks But I think this one is a killer, killer Marilyn look for her. And I find that when you go vintage your costume is more toward the time It looks authentic, and it feels that way, too You guys have a little bit of everything for all sorts of costumes here So, you know, to take modern and bring it or to take vintage and bring it modern so Lizzie Borden that's on the Netflix right now. That's perfect. And so this was something that I kind of curated, and I was like, all you need is an axe, and we are set. And I thought this would be really easy to do, very simple to do, and that is vintage 1970s. So, yeah, that's just something so fun. And then Donna and I put together some other pieces as well. Kind of the, she needs costume as a flamenco dancer. So with the hat and the, this is all hand-done. Oh, wow. This is gorgeous. And you can tell the quality, too, is exceptional. It's all handmade lace. It's all hand-done. It's beautiful. So we thought it'd be something. And you could wear that again and again and again. Maybe not with a hat. But you could repurpose this. Right, exactly. And do something else, another costume. Right, a matador costume or something. I mean, like, you know, you could do a lot. Beautiful. And this is, we did a few equestrian, and we did an equestrian look. We also did some flapper choices, but those are real-deal flapper, you know. Oh, you would wear this on New Year's Eve, too. Absolutely. So fun. Or, like, this would be, like, to me, Taylor Swift midnights. Perfect. You know? This is an actual ceremonial robe from Japan. Where do you get your stuff? I source all over the United States. I believe it. I've got three buyers. One is my daughter, Juliette, and my other one is my friend, Linda Kramer, who came last time and did all the couture work. Oh, yeah. She's fabulous. She's always coming in with loads and loads of goodies for me. And Lauren, too. Lauren. I do love to source she loves to source yes this is a shaved beaver fur and this can be worn this cape can be worn we were going to put on Marilyn there but we thought we like to show off the dress a little bit also have an eye for alteration too because like you said Marilyn's dress came with sleeves and you kind of curate it and made it into the v-neck into the arms and you could do that too when someone purchases one of these it's very very DIY and that's kind of what we're trying to kind of bring back here and so and then we found out I found she got this dress in the shop and I said, would that not be the coolest? Cruella de Vil. It's a vintage gunny sack. Oh, I love that. Yeah, so this would be a really fun Cruella de Vil with a cool fascinator, and you just need the long cigarette stick and red lip and some fun stuff. A little stuffed dog. Yeah. We just don't have these teeny tiny sizes. We've got from size 00 to size 26. So, yeah. All-size inclusivity is perfect for Halloween, especially if you're, you know, because everything that comes in bags from the big box stores are like, well, this is going to be a shot in the dark here, so we're going to find out if it fits or not. I feel like this is crunch time, too, so what do you recommend? Should we come in? go through the racks we need to make an appointment no i'm open every thursday from 10 30 to 2 30 and also on my on my facebook page you can find my phone number which is 224-715-9040 and you can actually call me for an appointment if you can't come in on those days because a lot of people work they can't make it on a thursday but i've got probably over a thousand pieces and i think that some people can go to a vintage shop and they feel a little bit overwhelmed because there's so many different you know what i mean we're all used to like very traditional store shopping but that's why you're there to help exactly I'll fit you however you'd like it's fun and you have a good time doing it that pretty I love that and that's $39 so are you serious yeah exactly I love yeah we make it affordable it's got adjustable straps too so you can bring it up bring it down well and even if you don't need a full costume right if you need an accessory a hat a fascinator if you're looking for something to tie in a costume you already have this is a great way to just grab jewelry accessories a cape a coat you know something like that so i mean it really just makes it more special you know when you do outfit your costume to the year and you're giving these pieces new life yeah and they already have a story of their own it's recycling to the max and everybody looks great and whatever party any of y'all go to no one else is going to have your costume because it's one of a kind and you don't feel bad shopping now you're like it's just being sustainable we like to know that we're helping the environment I love that.
