Happening today, local law enforcement leaders are laying out
a plan to address what they call gang and group violence.
Our Bill Keller joins us now live at the BCA headquarters
in Blaine with what we know right now about this plan.
Bill, good morning.
Good morning, guys.
In fact, we will learn more by this afternoon when more than 40 law
enforcement agencies from across the area announce a new partnership.
They are forming to tackle the recent trend
in gun violence among young Somali men.
Here's what we know. Many law enforcement
agencies already have their own gang units.
Many departments have mutual aid agreements.
But now, officials from dozens of federal,
state and local law enforcement agencies
say they have agreed to the framework
and identified resources for a new collaboration.
This comes after police have linked a string
of suburban shootings to Somali youth gangs,
including one shooting in the parking lot of a church in Edina
and, of course, the recent shooting outside
the Eden Prairie homecoming football game.
The alleged gunman in that case, 18-year-old Adam Abdi-Hakim Adam,
he now faces two counts of assault with a deadly weapon
for shooting two teens from St. Paul.
They recovered, but prosecutors have also charged four others,
including one of the victims, with third-degree riot.
All four suspects were taken
into custody last week after arrest warrants were issued.
They have since been released on bond.
Meanwhile, one of those men facing riot charges
was also the target of another shooting in Bloomington.
Surveillance video you're seeing here shows at least two gunmen.
They fired 100 rounds.
This was in a Bloomington neighborhood.
That shooting believed to be retaliation
for the one outside of the Eden Prairie football game.
Again, this afternoon we will learn more details about exactly how
this new collaboration with law enforcement will work.
The BCS has the plan, which relies heavily on existing resources
already underway, they say, even as agreements still being finalized.
Back to you guys.
Okay, yeah, we'll see what they lay out
for us later today. Thank you, Bill.
