My name is Clint. I'm just out making some bannock sandwiches.
The bannock mix is, I like to use three cups of flour, three
tablespoons of baking powder, and then one teaspoon of table salt.
So what you want to do is get yourself a cup
or a container of some sort.
Just get a good scoop in there.
Just kind of eyeball the water, mix it until it's
the consistency of a bread dough or something like that.
Add water
or flour as you need to.
You want it to stick to itself and to your hands
but to counteract that you're going
to have to just toss a little extra powder
on that and you just start kneading it down.
Pretty flat today
because what we're making are basically pizza pockets with bacon and
egg and cheese.
Toss a little flour down wherever you need to set it
so it doesn't end up sticking to
it.
Set it aside for frying after we get the egg cooked.
So right now we're just putting a little extra lard
with our bacon grease just to fry up
with the bannock.
Makes it a little tastier.
You might notice buzzing around us we've got bees everywhere.
My uncle's got a bunch of bee hives up at the orchard
so they've been pretty friendly
so far.
We haven't been stung yet
but I had one stuck in my hair that was kind of scary.
First
one will
go to you.
So now we're putting the hot egg onto the bannock,
we're going to throw some strips
of bacon on there and we're going to cover
this with cheese, just fold this over to break
through
and then you just
start pinching
the end closed.
This is my first time without salt
and pepper though, yeah that's perfect.
A bannock doesn't take very long to cook especially
in this oil like this so you just kind of
want to watch the edges of the bannock,
you'll see it starting to turn like a golden colour
And once it starts to cross the line into brown,
you know, it's time to flip it.
This is my own creation,
the B&E bannock.
So I was really hungry one day out in the bush,
and I had some eggs and bacon and bannock,
and just threw it together and was really happy with it.
So that's how you
make B&E bannocks,
and now it's time to eat.
