The candidate emphasizes a record of public service and bipartisan cooperation to lower costs, contrasting it with Paxton's legal troubles and reliance on wealthy donors. The discussion focuses on corruption, the influence of big money in politics, and the necessity of voter turnout in North Texas.
Your theme for this final stretch,
your closing arguments is a theme from Friday Night Lights
saying that you guys are the underdogs.
I know you say the real poll is when people go to polls.
Every poll is showing that this race is tight.
What's your final argument to voters?
Well, Tim Paxton has a career of selling us out
for his billionaire mega donors.
I have spent my career serving the people of this state,
working with both parties to cut property taxes,
lower housing costs, and cap insulin co-pays.
So the choice in this election is between someone
with a legislative record and someone with a criminal record.
Texans need to decide, do they want a senator
who's going to put money in their pocket
or do they want a senator who's going to put money in their own?
Many people watched that CNN town hall,
saw you taking questions from voters on both sides.
Now, some have been critical,
saying that your statements may have changed over the time.
What would your response be to some people saying
you're just saying things they'll hear more about?
Well, my positions have been the same.
I haven't changed my position on any issue
for the Senate campaign. And so I know Ken Paxton doesn't have any line
of attack. And so he's going
to accuse me of changing positions.
But that's not true. And I at least showed up to answer
questions from Texans. Ken Paxton didn't even show up.
Texans deserve a senator who's going to
actually be there for the job interview.
And they deserve a senator who's going to answer their
questions who's going to serve them.
Ken Paxton only serves himself. Why is President Trump talking
about this race so much? I mean,
I think they're worried that they're going to lose the seat in
Texas. There is a bipartisan backlash growing across
the state to the extremism and the
corruption that Ken Paxton represents.
And they are worried about what happens when people come
together across the partisan spectrum to stand up against
that corruption. So they're going to tell
lies about me. They're already spending $200 million
on attack ads to try to make me look
as scary as possible. Big money is powerful,
but it's nothing compared to people power.
Your campaign has a lot of money too.
Not as much as they do. And Ken Paxton's entire effort
is being bankrolled by the richest man in
the world. Elon Musk has already dumped $150 million
to try to buy the Senate seat in Texas.
And so we're going up against the most corrupt politician in Texas,
the most powerful man in
the world and the richest man in the world.
And so we're the underdogs until the last vote is
counted. Ken Paxton, the Republican nominee, has faced indictments.
He has been impeached by
Republicans, yet he is the nominee and he could win this race.
What would that tell you if he
wins this race about Texas and politics?
Well, I don't think he is going to win this race. I think
Texans are going to come together across party,
across race, across culture and religion. We're
going to come together and we're going to defeat
the most corrupt politician in our state.
And we are going to fight to lower our costs
and get this economy back on track and ensure that every Texan
who works hard and plays by the rules can get ahead.
That's what this election is all about.
It's not about the Democratic Party, the Republican Party.
It is about working people coming together across the state
to stand up against corruption and lower our costs.
Do you think some of your past comments,
whether they be misunderstood or not,
do you think some voters who this may be their first time voting,
They just hear the campaign ads and vote a certain way.
Well, Ken Paxton is trying to clip some
of my old cringy comments to distract from his
career of corruption.
He doesn't want people to know he
was impeached by his own party for bribery.
He doesn't want people to know he
was reported to the FBI by his own staff.
He doesn't want people to know
that he has sold out working Texans at every turn, gutting
our health care, blocking our overtime pay
while he takes bribes from wealthy donors.
And so he's going to play this game of divide
and distract because that's the only playbook he has.
You start this bus tour in Ken Paxton's home county.
You say Plano in this county is your slingshot.
What are you going to need to get you over
the finish line November 3rd?
Well, we're going to have to win Collin County.
We're going to have to win Tarrant County
and Dallas County and Denton County.
We have to win all of North Texas if we hope
to win this seat on November 3rd.
And so I'm asking everybody
who's watching to make a plan to vote early.
Check your voter registration because they're playing games
with voter registrations across the state.
And bring a friend to the polls.
We all have to make our voice heard in this process if we hope
to defeat the most corrupt politician in our state.
Thanks, Alfredo.
Appreciate you.
Thank you.
All right.
