Today, at 3.25 p.m., Sedgwick County Emergency
Communications began receiving multiple reports of a vehicle
that had driven through a youth soccer game at Striker Complex,
located at 2999 North Greenwich in Wichita.
Officers from the Wichita Police Department,
firefighters from the Wichita Fire Department,
and paramedics and EMTs
from the Sedgwick County Emergency Medical Service were dispatched to
respond to that scene.
I also know that law enforcement from at least the following agencies
responded. That is the Kansas Highway Patrol,
Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, and the Bel Air
Police Department. There may have been others,
but I can't confirm those at this time.
When officers and paramedics and firefighters arrived,
they located a scene on a field on the
west end of the complex.
And they saw community members and citizens rendering medical aid
to those who were injured.
They also located a truck on the west side of the field.
The driver of that truck was still with the vehicle, along with two
juveniles who were inside the truck at the time of this incident.
The driver of that truck is a 34-year-old female from Garden City.
She has been cooperative to this point in the investigation.
On the field, two people were pronounced dead here at the scene.
One of them is a six-year-old male from McPherson.
The other is a 35-year-old male from McPherson.
They are not of family relation to each other.
They're just both from McPherson.
Central County EMS transported an additional 11 people
from the scene to area hospitals.
Ten of those 11 had traumatic injuries.
And those injuries span from minor injuries like bruises
to extremely severe injuries.
But at this point, we believe those to be non-life threatening.
