And certainly the story of the night, Pete Fry,
the new mayor of Vancouver, defeating Ken Sim.
Game over for SimCity after just four years,
a 17,000 vote victory for Fry at the moment.
More numbers are going to come in.
And of course, equally important,
he will have a progressive majority on council that he will work with.
Now, it's interesting.
Right now, there's two ABC councillors in the top 10,
all four co-candidates, three people with the Green Party.
uh but there's a number of people all bunched within 1,000 votes
of each other in the area
between 8th place and 13th place if you see
the one more person is one city on there but this has
been going back and forth all night
so we could have two ABC people we could have zero at the end
of the day we may even have three that part
of the story still yet to be told uh but certainly
that's one of those things that is much secondary
to the fact that Pete Fry the mayor will have
his coalition to immediately move forward on the things
that he wants to. It'll be fascinating to
see what the first budget looks like.
It'll be fascinating to see what sort of relationship he
has with the Vancouver Police Department,
which has gotten their way on many, many issues over
the past four years. It'll be interesting
to see what happens now that he's in charge, arguably,
of the downtown east side
and these issues that have stymied Vancouver politicians for a long
time. That's the council makeup.
School board, as you said, Stephen, is a mix of one city,
COPE and Greens park board is fully COPE
and Greens at this point uh it's a big shift to the
left it's going to be a big change for how Vancouver
is governed over the next four years
and it's going to be Pete Fry at the top of city hall
the new mayor of Vancouver and Justin before
you go we have to i gotta ask you um as well just one last look
at what you make of what you've seen
so far tonight and certainly the story has been all
these changes that we've seen everywhere we
can see Rob Howard again we're taking a look at that 750 vote lead
but big city mayors going down
to defeat again and again but it wasn't all
from the right it wasn't all from the left it wasn't a
populist wave most of the time voters wanted someone
with experience who wasn't quite a
firebrand but it's fascinating to see
the mood locally people wanted a change of government
will we see that again seven days from now
with voters across British Columbia still to be seen
Still to be some results here.
Alan's going through all these final boards for us
because we're running out of time.
You're going to have to tune in tomorrow for our radio special
or Pete Fry's results but in the near municipality of choice
But for right now, still some results left to be seen.
But in Vancouver, we know who's going
to be mayor for the next four years.
And his name is Pete Fry.
