Officials in DR Congo are accusing former President Joseph Kabila
of planning a general
attack on the country.
Kabila on Monday joined forces with the rebel M23 to head a new outfit,
taking a more direct
role in the insurgency ravaging eastern DRC.
This is a widespread attack against the Republic,
a widespread attack against the Congolese
people, against the people's power to choose its leaders,
the people's power to live in
peace, the people's power to refuse
to live in a camp for displaced persons.
The choice to take up arms means killing Congolese people
in the hope of conquering territories,
and the Congolese people have already overwhelmingly rejected
this kind of adventure, and it's
the Congolese people who will ensure their own defense."

was presented as a politico-military outfit
it's headed by Kabila
who returned from exile last year with M23 leaders serving as deputies

and resources in order to put an end to tyranny

to peace that we've reiterated several times in
In accordance with Security Council Resolution 2773,
the Washington Accords and the Doha
Framework, we remain firm in our commitment
to resolve the security aspect of the crisis,

with the son M23, the new look M23, Kabila
in Doha, but also now with the political dialogue
that's being discussed here in Kinshasa.
Kabila was condemned to death in absentia last year
for complicity with the M23, allegations
he denies.
On Friday, he accused President Tshisekedi's government
of being motivated solely by its
own perpetuation in power.
