After beating and severely wounding a Washington Post journalist
and several Palestinian farmers
yesterday, Israeli settlers killed 20 goats belonging
to local farmers. Settlers from the
hilltop youth group have been wreaking havoc
on this year's olive harvest. Here are some of the
latest developments from inside Palestine and Israel.
This is Washington Post photographer
Heidi Levine. After Israeli settlers violently beat
her and stole her belongings, including her
camera and a phone. She was attacked whilst wearing a vest
and helmet clearly marked as
pressed. She was left with a broken rib,
four broken vertebrae, a near-severed finger and
multiple potential stab wounds.
She was simply reporting on settlers raiding and burning
Palestinian olive groves in the village
of Abu Falah in the occupied West Bank.
at least 50 masked men. I was attacked, pushed to the ground.
Luckily, I had my flight jacket
and my helmet. Otherwise,
I probably wouldn't even be here because they just kept kicking me
and kicking me like probably 50 times.
Palestinian farmers, journalists and
volunteers gathered at the scene to try
and protect one another from settler attacks.
However, under the protection of the Israeli army,
the settlers were able to reach the
olive groves and journalists,
carrying out their attacks until Palestinians had to intervene
to stop them.
The Israeli prime minister's office issued
a statement saying the situation remained
unclear and that an investigation was being opened,
despite the facts being laid out by
those who were at the scene and by the Washington Post itself.
Photojournalist Heidi Levine said she already knows
the outcome of these scenarios.
You know what, sadly, none of them will be prosecuted, I am sure of it.
In fact, journalist and activist Andre X,
who was at the scene, said Israeli soldiers
fired tear gas at Palestinians
and did absolutely nothing about the settlers.
So ashamed that as a parent myself, I cannot understand how
a parent can raise such individual
monsters.
They're not even humans and yes,
they are Jewish terrorists and they are giving everyone
in the country a horrible reputation."
But the settlers didn't stop there.
Early on Saturday morning,
disturbing videos began to emerge of 20 goats scattered across
the ground of a Palestinian farm in the town of Kafr Malik.
Settlers from the Hilltop Youth Group descended on the farmland
and killed the 20 goats, which
belonged to the Darbani family.
Kafr Malik sits north-east of Ramallah,
near several other towns such as Jaloud, Tormos
Aya and Abu Falah, which have all seen increasingly
violent Israeli settler attacks in recent
months.
