For this project I only needed two materials.
The first is styrofoam cones. The second is fabric.
I folded each fabric in half then used my rotary cutter
and cutting mat to cut two inch strips.
Then I cut those strips into two inch squares.
I didn't bother using a straight edge for this part
because it really doesn't matter if the pieces
are perfectly uniform. As long as they're all
roughly the same size it really doesn't matter.
Once all the squares were cut it was time to get
to work on covering the cones.
To do this I took a pair of dull scissors and placed the tip in the
center of the right side of the fabric.
Then I set the square on the cone and pushed it in until a bit
of the edges were sticking out.
That's literally the whole technique. I kept going with the dark
green plaid and then the light green linen until most
of the cone was covered. To finish it off I
hot glued a little cluster of brass bells to the top.
That's the only glue on this whole tree and
And just like that, the first tree is done,
a traditional looking tree with a little red
point set up.
These little trees are perfect for displaying on a bookshelf,
a fireplace mantle, or even
in a little Christmas village.
And because there's no glue holding the fabric on,
they're so simple and easy to make.
