Kitchener's Matthew Ryan Jacobs set to release new album

Your music has been described as blues, Americana, and folk, but how would you classify your sound? Probably singer-songwriter, Americana, folk. There used to be some elements of blues in it, you know, kind of old country blues, I would say. But that's just, my parents listened to a ton of Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings growing up. So I think some of that older stuff, and my mom was a huge Elvis fan, so some of his older blues stuff I think has kind of crept in there a little bit. That's where maybe the blues comes from, but I would never consider myself blues. yeah you stopped performing live for a little bit what made you decide to step away from the stage it wasn't really a conscious decision it was just busier and busier in life um writing and recording music's always been really important to me so that's the main focus um when i was younger i played a lot more live shows but it is something i want to get back into but yeah it's not really a conscious thing it's just the way life has been for me yeah but you've been back with a full band in september um is this something you're thinking of doing back again full time or something? Probably not full-time, but I definitely want to do it more. As my, you know, under the name Matthew Ryan Jacobs, putting out music that way, most of my shows have been solo, but I really, really enjoyed doing it with the band again, and I want to kind of get back into that. What are you working on right now? I have a new EP called Cardinals that'll be out probably within about six weeks, so yeah, that's the next step. Can you give us a teaser as to what it'll be about? Yeah, it's just kind of about the last year of my life.
