And I'm Cher Matzau in for Sabira Rayford.
We begin with new photos of some of the victims
from Thursday's deadly elementary school shooting in Bend, Oregon.
Three kids ages 5, 8 and 11
along with a 25-year-old teacher were killed.
This is five-year-old Rome Summer. He's the
youngest of all the victims
and he's being identified tonight at the request of his family.
And this is 25-year-old Megan Lambert.
She's been identified by her family as the teacher
who was killed. They shared a statement during
an afternoon news conference saying how selfless she
was and how much she loved her job.
And this is 54-year-old Becky Drury. She was hurt in the
shooting and is recovering in the hospital tonight.
Her family gave permission to identify her and
shared this photo of her.
Officials say the 16-year-old gunman was killed by a parent on
Thursday who had a pistol legally locked in his car
and followed him into the school. Here's a
timeline of the events.
It all started minutes before 1 o'clock when the suspect threw a gun
over a fence near Silver Rail Elementary School and climbed over.
Witnesses confronted him and
the suspect fired at a red pickup truck.
That driver called 911. A parent witnessed that
shooting and followed the teen inside the school
as the 16-year-old shot at the door to get in.
The 36-year-old man
who parked at the school took out a .40 caliber pistol that was legally
secured in his vehicle and carried it towards the school.
As he made entry through the forced
open doors, he heard shooting and saw a teacher involved in
a physical altercation with the
suspect. He then went to the classroom where
the struggle was underway, fired his weapon,
striking the suspect multiple times.
A seven-year-old girl was seriously hurt,
and a 54-year-old teacher was also taken to the hospital.
Police say the teen had 44 more rounds
with him or in his backpack.
Students will be out of school until at least Tuesday of next week.
