Just a day after Lamar Cook was arraigned on SNAP fraud charges,
the prosecution in his drug trafficking
and firearm case tried to revoke his bail.
22 News reporter Nick Antonakis was at court for the hearing
and joins us live in studio now with the latest.
Yeah, Julia, all eyes were on Lamar Cook
in Hampden Superior Court in Springfield this morning
as he was placed back in cuffs.
The former aide to Governor Maura Healey had his bail revoked
in the firearm and gun case he's faced for about a year
by failing to abide by all federal laws.
The violation, a shocking arrest on charges
of fraudulently receiving SNAP benefits.
Cook was fired from his Western Massachusetts
deputy director position back in October of 2025
after getting arrested at the state office building in Springfield
for allegedly receiving eight kilograms of cocaine.
Cook spent months in jail before being
granted pretrial release back in April.
While he was out, Cook allegedly committed SNAP benefit fraud.
Charging documents state that on his SNAP application,
Cook falsely claimed zero income,
said he only had $100 in his bank account,
and that he lived in a two-person household with a child.
That directly contradicts other documents describing how Cook had close
to $10,000 in at least one account
and at least another $12,000 from his mother,
who won a million dollars in the state lottery earlier this year.
Cook was arraigned in Boston yesterday on those SNAP fraud charges
and was released on his own recognizance before ultimately having
his bail revoked in the drug trafficking and firearm case today.
Judge Hodge gave it to me straight. He said that there was,
you know, the gentleman violated and he's right.
However, there was a decision, you know,
by a federal court in Boston that allowed the gentleman to be released
with no conditions whatsoever. So I really can't say anything more.
Cook is due back in court on October 26th.
Stay with us this evening.
We'll have a full breakdown of everything
that happened in the courtroom.
Working for you, Nick Antonakis, 22 News.
