Boosh and a visitor spend a day in the wilderness, showcasing a hand-built debris shelter and foraging for wild leeks. Together with their dogs, they prepare a rustic cream of leek soup over a stone fire pit near a hidden waterfall, blending bushcraft skills with a peaceful appreciation for nature and companionship.
Hello. Hello. I've found a bush man. A man living in the bush.
And a wild animal. Oh my goodness it's a half bear half wolf.
So this is Bush's shelter.
Check this out. Look at how pretty cool that is.
I'm quite impressed by the debris hut. So what'd
you do here? Well I got some saplings cut them down
and then I bent them across over to the cliff
it was bolder and then put a ridge pole on top to keep them down
and then i wove other saplings
through them kind of like braiding
and then uh i uh got some uh birch bark from falling down trees
that are all punky in the side just hack through
them made some shingles and laid on top and filled
in the gaps a little bit of moss it looks awesome man thanks man
because let's go inside and see
what she's like you gonna spend
the night here soon yes very soon definitely before the black
flies what do you mean yeah
that's pretty slick man that's really cool so
this birch bark was easy enough
to find very easy yeah it's kind of came to me
pretty much walking along the creek just to explore
and I found some pieces that
unfolded from a dead tree well that's kind of neat
so I grabbed those and I
looked and found another log that was still
round but those all punky in the
middle and cut that open
and got two shingles of each piece and yeah it's
pretty easy compared to the rest of it
and then you got it backed up right up
against this big old rock
and look at this backdrop doesn't this look coastal
like look at the look at the moss
and the trees and the rocks coming up you
got a little cave here for half wolf half bear dog
her name is Hibbert I'll
just call her Hibbert from now on but look
at the sizes man we can climb up
there later on but there is some serious rock lots
of good hardwood and bear dog
Man bear dog. There you go. Where was I on that one?
What you doing Hibbs?
Tripper's here too.
We'll go see him in a minute.
Hey, babe.
So you got rocks on the one side potential fire pit, maybe? I think so.
Moss all in this big old rock.
Inside that's that's the one wall completely and all
these weaved saplings in there. Birch bark, moss, a little bit of
Balsam fir boughs. The dog's gonna wreck the joint.
Pull it to angles. How long
do you think this took?
The whole build? Yeah. I'd say
Four to five hours. Yeah, that's decent man. By yourself.
That's a lot. It's a lot of saplings. It's a lot of moss
Birch bark. Head scratching too.
Head scratching. Is that a wolf?
It's just eating your birch bark.
Very good. Beaver.
Man beaver dog.
Man bear beaver dog.
That's all shelter build there.
He's still gotta build up the wall a bit there on that side
and maybe make a fire pit there.
I think for today,
said you wanted to build a outdoor fire pit?
Yes sir.
So we're gonna go right there
and then we can cook up.
You wanna tell the folks what we're gonna cook up?
Sure thing.
We're gonna get some wild leeks.
We're gonna make some cream of leek soup.
Potatoes, leeks, cream, chicken stock.
Bonus.
Oh, Mr. Tripper's plum tuckered
from the hike in, isn't he?
You plum tuckered, bud?
You doing all right over here?
Good boy.
Oh, he's warm.
He's warm, soaking up the sun.
Oh, good boy.
Good boy.
Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you.
Well, this is a similar forest to down where I used to live in Windsor.
It's got cherry trees.
It's got maples.
It's got trout lilies.
It's got beech.
the only it's the only thing
is different is things like
this here so we've got a legit
stream running through here, a legit stream
running through here there's yellow birch that's
different but there are leeks as well
which is similar to where i'm from so i'm wondering if
this type of forest is synonymous where where leeks grow
because it's very soily here and that's
That's like the same where I'm from either way.
I'm excited to have the leeks. We're gonna make some leek soup
I'm gonna need to build or sorry
Just make a little digging stick cut one out a little bit
And then we'll let that leek stew simmer leek
soup simmer leek soup simmer trigger these leeks
It's a good patch good patch of leeks,
and then there's some trout lilies
that have flowered in there, too
Good
cross,
better
than
I
did.
Good cross,
good cross,
good cross,
yeah.
Turn, good turn, good turn.
That was the first time he did that,
never
taught
him turn.
Good off, good off, yeah.
Good job, Tripper, the one-eared, no-eared wonder dog.
If you didn't notice, his other ear went down again.
I guess it's a common thing.
Well, they're teething.
Who knows what will happen if any of them will go up.
I sure hope they do, that's what I want.
But we shall see.
I wonder if he's like a orca whale in captivity,
his ears don't stand straight up,
wild beast.
So it was really nice of Boosh to show me his spot.
Let's go back over there and check out his shelter
a little bit more, start cooking up,
get our digging stick, get some water.
There's a waterfall right around here too
we can go check out.
It was a nice day, nice woods, good company.
Tripper's a little scared of the big old dog, Hibbard,
but she's a good girl.
She's not trying to be mean or anything.
We're just
very excited.
Check this out, raspberries or elderberries,
something very edible growing on this old dead log
and then there's
whole mushrooms.
Very woodsy,
very
terrarium-y.
That's a sketchy log.
Another patch of leeks over there.
Another small one over that way.
Lots of leeks, lots of leeks.
Leeks
for
days.
Nothing.
It goes all
the way around.
That's crazy, eh?
We're gonna find a badger or something.
Porcupine up in there.
Hibs.
Hey, oh hello.
Oh hello there.
That's funny.
She's like, what?
Plenty of room to spare.
You backin' up?
Are Hibs backin' up?
Back up the bus.
What a good dog.
Lay down in there.
Take a little nap.
Tripper's layin' down next to my backpack.
It's kinda hard
to see
from over here.
Lens flare, boy.
Lens flare.
I love this type of terrain.
Very fun.
Moss is like carpet.
I was too busy with my head down on the ground
working the last time I was here to admire it.
It's a good viewpoint.
Yeah, this is a really nice spot.
Buds are coming over
on the trees
and everything.
While I'm up here, there's this old maple,
it's already broken, pretty good size around,
might as well use this for my digging stick.
Whoa, danger camera, oh my gosh.
All right, I just got my knife up here,
so we'll make it a decent length.
So we got some oak to it,
just gonna make some notches,
and then I'll just break it over my knee.
supposed to do that it's
already got half
of a shovel-y part made
so we'll just continue on
with that
i got
my digging
stick what
are you
saying trip
how you
doing just
enjoying
the sun
big guy i'm gonna go get some leeks you coming start
on the outskirts here don't trample too
many oh it's leeky you
can smell the leeks some
people call them ramps
before that's a double
they're still
small still
on the small
side the good
thing
is we have
that stream
creek to wash
all these off handy very good spot have i said
that yet this is a very cool spot
lots of resources and it looks cool too
that's why i moved up here guys right
to have all the options in the world going outdoors
and filming videos and having fun
putting my dog out even if it's
a different dog dog than i started
with a little earthworm in here
i got this much we'll see if we need any more if we do it's right there
but uh it's a good start
Anyway I'll go back clean them up chop
them up see how Bushy's coming along
with
making
his fire
pit check
out my dog
too you're
gonna
be okay
thank you
thank you Bushy's making
a stone bridge for himself
to cross put that
shot shot
that putt I
should say
good bridge
pretty good
bridge
really big
shoe
here we are he's on so a
thorough washing is needed
because there's
these little fuzz
on no big deal
damn kitchen
nonsense going on
here. Alazam,
Alakazam.
Do you want
to be breaking
things? It was.
It would
be fate.
The fate of my animal.
The **** of fate. Good tenacious deal.
Those guys are cool, I like them.
So why the rocks on the bottom?
I like having those there just to protect the forest floor.
And I had a friend who had a big bonfire in his backyard one year.
And about a week later,
all of the earth around collapsed.
And what happened was the fire from the fire pit got
underground and burned all the fill underground
and uh almost caught the whole neighborhood on fire yeah
it's a real problem pine duff
and stuff like that's super bad yeah yeah i've uh i've done
the same for many years lining the pit
with rocks nice settle with the barrier at least yeah and
it's it's it's a piece of pine it retains
the heat you know it's just being a good good steward of
the land as you're bushcrafting you haven't done any kind
of damage here right you used a little
bit of twine and you used all dead stuff yeah a couple saplings
but other than that a lot of the
saplings are from brushing on the way in too right
that's nice yeah pretty slick man i got the uh the
leeks just sitting out there in the sun to dry out
a little bit i'm gonna clean them out too soon but
uh we're just hanging out with hanging out
with hibbert over here hanging with hibbert trevor has
no desire
to come over
here she's
going high
a little bit
of a keyhole
here hoping
that we can
pull coals into here yeah that's a great idea i might keep
the keep it a little bit lower yeah
that makes a lot of sense
so you can pack it in with poles yeah i had to deal with pre-made
provincial park pits for so long i want to make
my own make it perfect no man this place is uh
this place is really cool like even yeah just
be able to being able to do what you're doing
right now you know what i mean yeah yeah it's
a lot, it's, it's a lot. Looks good, it's
very good filming materials, just standing here
and watching you work you know
So we're both getting hungry
and we're going to make that leek soup and it has to cook for what?
An hour? An hour, yeah.
Hey, get down. Get down.
You want to be on camera too? Okay.
So we're going to divvy up chores. We both need
firewood and we need a tripod.
I found a really nice piece of seasoned hardwood
we're going to take down while Boosh makes up a tripod.
He's got his really cool
fire pit already built so we're almost
there. We've got, what goes in the
soup? It's a bouillon cube, water,
potatoes, leeks,
and heavy cream, heavy cream, heavy cream, oh, oh
natural check, oh it's the perfect firewood
hey buddy, hey what's up
big guy, what are you
doing here, what are you
doing here, watch your
first tree fall
right on your dad
just stay there
peeing on the leaks
what a jerk, don't
Don't pee
on those leaks, bro.
Good boy, Tripp.
My good dog.
Yeah, you're my good boy.
His ears are down, his ears are down.
Did I mention that?
I'm gonna
tripod,
because
one little
piece
of string.
All right.
Nice, sturdy tripod.
Somewhat.
A little tripod.
Once you hang a, you know, a pot of water,
it'll be pretty sturdy.
Oh, yeah.
I got some spikes in here, too.
Oh, nice.
No, that looks mighty fine.
Mighty fine.
I should've got a plumb bob.
you can see exactly what's above.
What?
A plumb bob.
It's like a, it's a thing they use in carpentry
to make sure something's standing up right.
It kinda acts like a level,
but you hang a heavy pointed thing from a string,
it shows what's directly below the point.
That makes sense.
Yeah.
Plumb bob.
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, plumb bob.
Oh, come on.
I thought you said plumb bill.
Oh, never heard
of those.
Here, Joe.
Nice.
Decent hardwood cut up.
I'm gonna split up some of those pieces
just because they have the check,
and it's gonna be really fun to split them.
I mean, we need to split them.
That's
why.
That's fun.
Fun wood to split.
Look at that.
Super
dry.
Oh,
here,
boy.
There's a little break for you, eh?
Oh, it's amazing.
He's not hating life out here, either.
He's pretty happy just smelling the smells, I think.
Every sometimes, I'll bring her for a hike,
and she'll be chill for like a half a week.
After?
It's the most beautiful thing.
Yeah, no doubt.
Good
dog.
My firewood broke.
I guess it keeps her busy, eh?
I haven't had to say that in a while.
My firewood
broke.
It's so nice not lighting a fire on snow.
It's so nice literally just being able to film
instead of doing things and filming at the same time.
No, I'm dead serious.
And I really, it's just so much easier.
Little fat out of here.
Yeah, what's that?
What do you got there?
Put the head of action figure on the ferro rod.
It's Boba Fett, man, call him Dangle Fett.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Bobo fire?
Yeah, Bobo fire.
Oh,
man.
Damn, Bobo.
That's the secret.
All that birch bark, I love the smell of it, eh,
when it just sparks up.
Very oily.
Got some potatoes we gotta chop up,
throw them in the pot with some leeks,
draw out the moisture,
and then add the rest of the greens besides the cream.
Look what we did.
We're
so
Bruce
Crafty.
We got a bunch of potatoes in there,
cut up with just the leeks so far, right?
Yeah.
Alrighty, so what we're gonna do,
we're gonna throw that on dry?
Yes, throw it on dry.
That makes some moisture for us.
Alrighty.
the stuff that comes out of that is what we want
to start the soup with yes yeah
I'll make a bit of a stock and then we'll add
the chicken stock too oh my
gosh oh I'm hungry
thinking about it yeah
dude it smells phenomenal
straight phenomenal looks like bok choy
like swiss chard yep you have me at
bok choy you ever play plants versus
zombies yes bok choy we've had this over
the fire for about an hour
or so and turned into this nice pasty consistency
and then we added about 500 milliliters of water
so everything's soft in there
we're gonna boil that out a little bit
and then add the bouillon add the cream
salt
and pepper
all good
damn it
boom it's 60
frames too
so it looks
super
smooth that's cute that's
gonna be a good picture
Hey wait I'll come help you
Hey bud.
Wait.
You're good.
You're good.
There he is.
There he is.
There's your boy.
You want out?
Okay, let's get out.
Come on.
Are you gonna stay in
or are you coming out?
You wanna come out of there?
Oh no you don't.
Oh no you don't.
You wanna stay in there.
This
dog.
Hey good boy.
Wanna make up some tea?
I just so happen to have this bushcraft all day mug,
enamel camp mug.
Order yours at bunkerbranding.com
under influencers Joe Robinette.
Oh hello.
That's my bushcraft all day mug.
He's taking the stir stick.
He took the stir stick.
Leek flavored,
and there he goes.
You saw that?
Nice.
He went back
for the stick.
Good boy.
See, she's okay.
No, he's fine.
I'm so worried.
It's just me.
I own her.
Can't be that bad.
He is more worried about you than her.
Yep.
More worried about puppies, more worried about you.
You're bringing it
on yourself, homie.
Angry water.
Bushcraft all day.
So this is the tea I'm drinking.
That's organic turmeric with meadow sweet and ginger.
Doesn't it sound appetizing?
It's actually pretty good for my tummy.
So that's what it's all about.
So she's about done cooking, who she's saying.
Yes, sir.
So it goes with that, some cream now,
put it on low heat near the flame type thing yeah yeah
with ten minutes and it
should be ready nice looking good smelling really good too
look at the leeks oh my man it's a mash of leeks
check out this turmeric tea it smells decent
but look look at the yellow earth
color it is look at the string it doesn't look
that appealing okay that's
That's hot, buddy.
Anyway, I'm gonna drink it.
Burnt potato at the bottom.
Scraped out burnt potato.
Oh yeah, the fishing line stuff.
Sure.
This has been all day, coming.
It's past 5.30 now, we got over here in the morning.
She's thick.
She's thick.
She's thick.
Worth it.
I'm gonna try to serve this
without taking all of the seaweed.
Yeah, you better not take all that seaweed.
Nori.
How am I gonna do this?
I don't know.
I should grab a glove.
Scoop.
That's gonna be a lot of scoops.
Or maybe, yeah, do you wanna go up here?
Sure.
I am so
unprepared.
He's exploring up on the rocks.
Oh, cool.
Yeah.
As much as you want, you don't need much.
No?
Well.
That's quite a bit actually.
Definitely take, yeah, like take at least half.
Yep, there we go.
Yeah, that's the one?
Yeah, justice.
Long on with the law
All right, we're good then?
You're good.
Salt and pepper that piece up and call it good.
Where is my dog?
Dog,
where you go?
He went through your shelter.
Did he?
Yeah, he walked right through and out this way.
Oh, cute.
And he's off.
Don't forget, I'm here, bud.
All right, I tried it, it's pretty decent.
I'm not gonna lie.
Can you back up?
Thank you, thank you.
Look at how green this is.
Look at how green and snotty this looks.
It's really good, it's like,
It's kind of hard to get past the texture looking at it,
but in your mouth it's fine.
Oh my
goodness.
It's good.
It's good, yeah.
It's really good.
Okay, this just looks ugly.
It didn't look like this at home?
No, no, no.
Immersion blender is a nice and fine paste.
What, did it taste different?
It did, because they're older leeks.
Okay.
And they stunk a bit.
Leave it.
The leeks that you had.
Yeah, they're pretty potent, like, I don't know,
fast food joint onion smell oh yeah jealous
and the little charred bits in
here add a little extra flavor to it
that's really easy and simple few
ingredients tastes good worth making
in the bush definitely I'll be my
springtime favorite of mine now it's cool enough
to have soup still yeah and
the leeks are growing yeah oh
no I know it's like
there's carrots in that
bouillon or something there's like
a other vegetables oh I do see a little
orange that's okay
nummy-nums yeah man
this is all I see like little tiny pieces of carrot
for sure well leek soup
