Kelly Clarkson Attacks Shop

Kelly Clarkson stopped into Art of Play in Brooklyn on Oct. 10 and later claimed staff treated her like she couldn’t afford a $15,000 singing mechanical bird (Molly), comparing it to the Pretty Woman boutique scene. She posted about it to millions of followers.
Art of Play says Molly is permanently attached to the wall for magic shows and not for sale. They offered a nearly identical bird for $15k or a different German singing bird for ~$2k. Security footage (shared by Pablo Torre) shows a short interaction; Clarkson appears to leave disgruntled and pulls out her phone. The store calls it a misunderstanding and says nothing justified the scolding on the way out.
The shop reports death threats, negative reviews, and confrontations after the posts. Owner Adam Rubin said, “Kelly Clarkson has put us in danger.” The store later listed Molly at a $15 million markup amid the drama. Coverage from BBC, USA Today, and others confirms the competing accounts.
Stein calls the whole thing an insane overreaction from a celebrity, notes how unlikely Kelly Clarkson is as the star of this kind of scandal, and argues the store is coming out ahead on publicity while Clarkson looks like a bad customer. He also contrasts this mild “cancellation” with real career-ending ones.
