It's time now to talk some high school sports
and joining us now with the latest on the
top sports players turning heads this season
is All DMV's Noah Ferguson. Noah, it's so good to
have you back. Thanks for having me.
All right, so let's get right into it. Some of the schools
and football players you're looking out for.
Yeah, it was another huge week of high school
football in the area. And I guess I have to start over at the St. James
who took home a huge win
against a national power in St. Francis over in Baltimore.
Cash Carter, the senior, excuse me,
the junior quarterback from the St. James had three touchdowns
in the win. He also had five
touchdowns against IMG Academy last week.
So he's on a tear for the St. James and a huge victory
there. In DC, Zeke Hubbard, the defensive back from Eastern,
also had a big performance as a
defensive back against Roosevelt.
In Maryland, Kamarion Imes, the athlete from Seneca Valley,
He had 200 yards from scrimmage
and three touchdowns in a win over Northwest.
And Chase Irvin from DeMatha had a sick one-handed catch for DeMatha
and a big win over Good Counsel as well.
And I have to shout out Will Smoot
as well from Madison, the running back.
It was his first game this season,
had 167 yards and a touchdown against Westfield.
So it was a big crop of talent this week.
It's hard to choose just five, but some great talent there.
They certainly put up some numbers.
Was there any surprises for you, though,
out of the ones you mentioned or maybe one you haven't?
Yeah, I would have to go back to Cash Carter because I think it's
pretty incredible what the St. James has done in such a short time.
St. James, this is only their second year at the varsity level,
and they're already taking down national powers.
So credit to Coach Darrell Overton's program over at the St. James.
And it starts with the quarterback.
He really runs the show on offense for them.
And so that was that was really big time.
So let's move on to volleyball now and this week's groups.
Yeah, there were three big hitters this week.
Megan Elder from Poolesville is in the middle there,
and she's a pretty incredible hitter.
If you watch her hit, she really gets high above the net
and spikes it right down for Poolesville.
They've had a great season so far.
And Virginia Melana Cabret from West Springfield
has kind of moved over to the outside hitter position this year
and has really excelled.
They've actually yet to drop a set this season,
which is pretty incredible given that it's already mid-October.
And then Emmy Wolfe from Holy Cross.
Holy Cross is one of the WCAC big contenders this year,
and she's been their rock on the outside for them.
So three huge hitters this week,
and it's pretty fun watching them play.
And soccer, last but certainly not least.
Yeah, had a bunch of talent this week.
Benji Kurtzig from Washington International had a hat trick.
Joel Embiid from Paint Branch had a hat trick as well,
and a big win over Churchill, who's a state title contender.
On the girls' side, Cami McIntosh is only a freshman,
but already has 17 goals and eight assists for Bishop O'Connell,
which is pretty incredible.
Norniama from Churchill had two
hat-tricks last week, so a lot of goals.
Emma Pryor from Bullis and Javier Villa
from Georgetown Prep also stood out.
So, again, a lot of talent on the soccer side,
and we're really excited to be covering it for the Washington Sun.
And we're really excited for our Show Us Your Spirit tomorrow.
We have Good Counsel that match up against St. John's.
How do you think it's going to go?
Yeah, St. John's has been a heavy hitter in the DMV area.
Good Counsel, obviously, under new leadership this year.
I do think, though, in those WCAC games, as we've seen,
and as people in the DMV know, they're never easy.
So I think it'll be a close one.
I think probably St. John's might be a slight favorite there,
but I think that'll be a pretty incredible game
and would love to see how that turns out.
And it'll certainly be a fight to the finish
that we'll all be watching out for.
Noah, thank you so much for joining us
and for following all of our young athletes
and giving us something to look forward to
as we watch those games continue to play out.
We appreciate it.
Thanks for having me.
Absolutely.
