On a day when it joined the India Bloc allies to demand
the Chief Election Commissioner's resignation,
the TVK also dialed up the heat on the DMK and accused it
of murdering democracy during the SIR process in Tamil Nadu.
In a post on X, TVK Minister Radha Varjun alleged
that the DMK had initially opposed the SIR exercise,
but later it colluded with the Election Commissioner
and the BJP to carry out voter revisions and deletions in Tamil Nadu.
Arjun also alleged that the DMK used
its party machinery to influence the process
and remove young voters who were likely to vote for the TVK.
Further, he warned the DMK that the TVK government would expose
the conspiracy behind the SIR exercise with evidence.
The SIR exercise had begun in Tamil Nadu in October last year.
The total number of voters in the state stood
at 6.41 crores before the exercise.
However, when the final electoral roll was published in February this
year, the number of electors had come down by 74 lakh to 5.67 crores.
The DMK, Congress and the VCK had opposed the SIR exercise
and questioned its hurried implementation before the assembly polls.
The TVK too had opposed the exercise while the BJP
and the AIA DMK had supported the exercise,
alleging that the DMK was relying on bogus voters.
In the subsequent assembly polls, Vijay's TVK emerged
as the single largest party, falling short of an outright majority.
It later formed an alliance with the Congress, VCK, IUML and left
parties, all of whom were opposed to the SIR exercise in the state.
