Developing this morning a child dead after being found unresponsive
in a home in South Richmond Hill, Queens.
Yeah, that's right. Let's get right to Robert Moses.
A lot of questions this morning, Robert, on exactly what happened here.
Yeah, Dan and Rosanna, this is a quiet neighborhood about four miles
or so north of JFK Airport.
And as you can see, the home that's at the center
of this investigation is still cordoned off at this hour.
Police tell us that just before 7 o'clock last night,
they responded to a 911 call reporting an assault inside the home
that's located at 9524 110th Street in South Richmond Hill.
Police have not said who made that 911 call.
When officers got here to the scene,
they found a five-year-old girl unconscious.
She did not respond.
She was brought to Jamaica Hospital,
which is about two miles away in critical condition.
She was later pronounced dead.
Right now, the medical examiner is trying
to figure out what the cause of her death is.
At this point, we don't know what kind of injuries she sustained.
I just spoke to a neighbor who did not want his face shown on camera.
It's usually a very family-orientated neighborhood
and peacefully and quiet, you know.
And to find such news or events is very uncommon for this neighborhood,
especially when you see, you know, squad cars just sitting around.
You know, people already know something serious has happened.
And then to hear the news that a child was involved,
it's very heartbreaking and it weighs heavily on the heart,
especially when everybody's accustomed to seeing children running
around, enjoying life and riding their bikes and their scooters.
And, you know, to see the smiling faces and then to hear,
you know, again, something like this, it's really, really sad.
I've been in touch with police this morning.
So far, they have not yet released
her name pending a family notification.
And police tell me they have not yet made any arrests.
Live in South Richmond Hill this morning, Dan, back to you.
All right, Robert, thank you very much.
Hope to get some more on that soon.
