New developments in the October 2nd shooting
at Eden Prairie High School's homecoming game.
Five men have now been charged in connection to it,
and three appeared in court today.
This as players return to the field tonight
for their first home football game amid extra security.
Good evening. Thanks for joining us on Fox 9
and Fox Local. I'm Randy Meyer.
And I'm Kelsey Carlson. We have live team coverage
of these developments tonight.
Mike Manzoni explains what came out of court today.
But first, Maury Glover sharing how authorities
are keeping people safe at games.
this morning? Well, that's right.
Spectators had to go through an extra layer of security
at tonight's game, all in an effort to keep everybody safe.
I'm absolutely thrilled. Even
though they're not quite under the Friday night lights,
as the Eden Prairie football team took
the field, fans were happy to see the Eagles back on their home turf.
I just saw the police chief
down there. I know they've got some special plans for tonight.
They've stringed things and I know
will be safe. After a shooting outside
the team's homecoming game left two people injured and forced
thousands of others to be evacuated
from the stadium nearly two weeks ago. District officials
implemented new security measures
for Wednesday night's matchup with the Eastview Lightning.
Along with an increased police presence,
the district added barricades and metal detectors,
a new bag policy, and students
who attended the game had to present a valid ID. I think for what
happened in the past game, I think those security measures are great.
I think a sense of security
and knowing there's more people around, walking,
eyes open, vigilant, I think it'll be a great
night. Even with the extra security,
spectators say the chance to bring the community together again
felt like a return to normal.
It's unfortunate that we have to take those kind of steps
today to do that, but you know,
I guess in light of it, it's fine that they did and
we're okay with it. And they say that's a win whether it's on the field
or off. It's the way
we our society is functioning right now
and hopefully we can do better in the future so
whatever it takes you're not going to keep me away from a ball game.
Now district officials say the
extra security costs about $2,500
and those measures will remain in place for the rest of
the football season.
By the way Eden Prairie doing well tonight they are up 56 to 8 over the
Eastview Lightning.
Reporting live in Eden Prairie, Maury Glover, Fox 9.
Wow, that's a pretty big score.
That's a good game right there for Eden Prairie. Thank you, Maury.
