-- Come along for a day in my life, its my 36th birthday, my dog Tripper is hurt, we find out whats wrong, cook up some steaks over the fire and enjoy the quiet day.
Hey guys! I'm sure you can tell from the thumbnail and and or title of this video,
Tripper's hurt. I wish I would have thought to bring the camera.
I didn't. I filmed a little bit yesterday.
Of what the situation looks like, uh, he can't stand.
I just got back from the vet right now. He's there, so.
Basically, what happened, he had a pre-existing injury on his left paw.
I thought it was his paw from just being tripped, running around,
gung ho, full tilt all the time. I never knew what happened.
I know that when he exerts himself, it gets he starts to limp on it
and favor it and stuff like that. And this happened before Christmas.
So, it's impossible for me to keep Tripper still.
Impossible for me to keep him from running around.
Even if I don't don't throw a ball, he's throwing on himself and running, chasing,
chasing the other dogs. What, whatever he's Tripper, right? Digging all that stuff.
But as of late, I've noticed that it's got really bad.
And two days ago, so yesterday was Victoria Day, which is a Canadian holiday.
So the night before that, at like eight o'clock at night.
All of a sudden, he's outside. All of a sudden, here, and I go run over to him.
He's laying on the ground, crying, like constantly crying, like his paws up
in the air, like this, just laying, just ears right down, tail tucked, shaking.
He he must have just ran the wrong way, trying to get his ball,
because he was right behind me. I just didn't see what happened or whatever.
Was playing with his ball, must have ran the wrong way and torqued something.
I don't know, but I feel like so. I obviously examined him myself.
I'm no expert, but there's no real spot on his arm or his leg where.
Where I grab and it's more tender than the other spots,
like he doesn't let out a yelp or whatever, except for in his shoulder a little bit.
Um. So I couldn't take him to the vet yesterday because it was a holiday.
Eight o'clock this morning is when they opened.
I I I live an hour away from the city. I called.
They got him in. So I rushed there. I just got home now. Um.
I wasn't even able to go into the vet with him
because of the whole social distancing thing, so I had to stay outside.
They took him on a leash, brought him in.
Like he hobbled in, he he didn't eat or drink for two.
Sorry, he didn't get up to eat or drink for two days.
I brought all the food and water to him. He.
He's out of it. He didn't pee. He peed in my arms once, and that was about it.
Because I picked him up, and I like either scared him or he was nervous
or or just the pressure, and he peed like quite a bit on me.
But he won't pee outside or anything like that, or go to the bathroom outside.
Anyways, I just dropped him off there.
I had to stay outside while they took him in to look at it. The vet came back out
and said it seems not to be just a sprain because he's again he's not like.
Showing any favor to one spot or whatever,
and the way that he has his whole arm tucked up like this, it's a little concerning.
He said otherwise, he just give him some anti-inflammatory
and call it a sprain and whatnot. But we're gonna do X-rays.
He's gonna be sedated a bit and stuff like that. So he's there today.
I'm gonna spend my birthday driving four a four hour round trip to get the dog,
but it's fine. I drove there and back. It's just two hours,
and then at four o'clock today, I have to go there and back again.
Hopefully, and we'll see what they say. I will bring my my camera with me,
and I'll try to record what the what the doctor says either on my phone or whatever.
I'm not gonna stick a camera in the guy's face. It's just not my style.
But maybe I'll try to record what he says on the phone
so you can can hear firsthand.
I really hope that he's okay.
Emmy and I went to to go on a camping trip the other night at the fort.
We brought a tent and everything,
but we got there and it's like and Tripper stayed at home because he was hurt.
That was the first night he got hurt.
I left him with with Will, but like I see all the holes he dug.
And I just I usually have him there, having there all the time with me.
Whenever I'm there, I see the holes he dug.
I see the stuff he's chewed on, like the toys and stuff.
And I just miss the little prick. You know what I mean?
Like it's like, he's such a pain in the butt all the time, but I love it.
I love him now. Like we're we're we're he's my dog now.
You know what I mean? So I feel very. It's like a.
He's one years old. He's just over one, and I, I, I don't want him to be lame.
You know what I mean? I I know he, dogs can go with three arms or three legs,
whatever they can do it. I've seen. I've camped with one, but not tripper man.
Trippers a hundred and ten miles an hour all the time.
So I'm really concerned. I hope that the doctor just like sets it.
It's a break or something, and he sets it, and it like um.
He just has to be in a cast for a little while or whatever,
even a month, two months, whatever. I'm cool with that.
But like, if he has to, God forbid, I don't know. I don't know what has to happen.
But if his, he said he doesn't think it's bone cancer because it's he's
so young or whatever. But who knows? He said it could be degenerative disease.
I'm not really sure what that means or like genetics type thing. But like.
Like I need this dog to be to be good to go. You know what I mean? Um.
We're gonna do what we have to do to get them okay.
Definitely, and I'll keep you guys with us.
And by the end of this video, we'll find out what what has happened to Tripper.
But Autumn and Tripper are like this. Like even when he was hurt,
she's we're trying to keep her away from him as much possible.
But she's on top of him. He's not flinching.
You know, I mean, they're they're best friends.
Emerald and him is not the same case.
She's a little bit scared of him, and I can understand why he's full tilt
and he's knocked her down and growled at her and things like that.
But he's a good dog. He really is a good dog.
It just brings back all the bad memories, man.
Bringing your dog and leaving them there. I know it's just his leg.
I know it's gonna be fine. I I I'm ninety percent sure it's gonna be fine.
Anyways, like I mentioned, today is my birthday, so I'm gonna go back inside,
spend it with my family. My kids made me awesome cards and stuff like that, so.
I don't know. Maybe we'll keep you along a little bit here and there for the day.
Uh, we're not doing anything special.
Like I said, I'm driving back at four o'clock to get the dog,
and I won't be home till after six now because the the there and back.
So, supper's not going to be a big thing or anything, but um.
My birthday wish is for that tripper to be is to be a.
My birthday wish is for tripper to be okay.
Hi, Daddy. Hi.
Hey, Daddy. Hey, baby. Love you. Love you, Daddy.
Look at this. Look at this masterpiece.
Just missing tomatoes, man. And the most Canadian thing ever.
Every time, every time, pizza.
I'm tired. Tired? Can go for a nap after this.
Tonight.
Yeah.
Go have a nap after this.
What does your What does your shirt say?
I love my daddy.
I love my tuna sandwich.
So since quarantine and even before that, this is our norm. Just kind of hang out.
Usually, Emerald's at school, but Emmy's over in the other room right now,
either cleaning her room or watching TV. Most likely watching TV.
But we're sitting down having lunch. It's a nice day out.
Um, we'd normally be doing some work outside or walking, tripper or whatnot, but.
Yeah, lunchtime at the Robinette. Here's our view.
From the dinner table.
We worked on those those gardens quite a bit.
I took down a bunch of trees and put a bunch of topsoil and manure.
And Will's been busting her butt there. Yeah.
She's got some by that bird feeder. What do you plant there? Raspberries.
Yeah, raspberry bushes. Raspberry bushes going there, and then.
We're just waiting for a couple more warm days before we put out all
the plants we have inside.
A little bit more view of the water too.
Okay, guys. Okay, guys. What? What?
Okay, guys. Okay, daddy. Okay, what?
No, mommy's not crying.
Okay.
No.
No. Nope. I mean, he's fine. He's fine.
He'll be fine.
Maybe, yeah.
Maybe no.
Baby, yeah. Okay, who's the baby? A baby.
Yeah.
I like you in a hug. Okay, give me a hug. Give me a hug. Oh.
Love you so much.
You tell me.
There's nothing at all out of the ordinary.
Shoulders and.
As far as the bones go, which which is good, so it put it into the realm of the.
Which would most likely mean.
But in the dogs, the socket is more like a saucer.
It's pretty flat. There's a lot of soft tissues, tendons,
and ligaments that provide the support around those areas.
They can be injured and then they get re-injured fairly easily as well.
And with an active dog, a tripper, that could very well be it.
We started him on Metacam, which is an anti-inflammatory, this morning, and.
Is that a liquid? It's a liquid. Yeah, I used to use that for skates. Yeah.
I probably use that for about ten to fourteen days.
Rest. That's gonna be the. It's it's. That's gonna be the hard.
Very hard. Yeah. But we'll see how he comes along with that. Okay.
Other than that, if he's not improving, other things that we can look at doing.
One would be just to email their pictures off to a radiologist,
have them take a look at things. Of the X-rays or. Yeah.
Okay. See if there's something that they see that's wrong.
Okay. That set of eyes. I do a fair amount of orthopedics.
I don't see anything that really. No, I trust your opinion for sure.
It's just there could be some other little subtle things that are there.
She without your cell number, so I think she can give you
a call directly if I'm not on the phone lines. Okay, and.
Okay. Thank you. Awesome. Appreciate it. Take care. All right. You too, man.
The doctor said Tripper's all woozy, but he's eating.
Standing on it, which is better.
He has that MetCAM pain med, anti-inflammatory stuff. So.
So that's gonna help him a little bit, but keeping him off of his feet.
Keeping him inactive for two weeks is gonna be a, a chore.
All right, what we got going on here, wife? We got steak with.
Keg seasoning. Those are some juicy steaks. Some amazing looking steaks.
We got some yellow beans.
I think that was what we had last time.
We told people what we were eating. Really, twice baked.
Potatoes with roasted fresh garlics that I mashed up.
Leeks. How many garlics? A few of them.
Leeks and green onions and two with cheese, two without.
Twice baked. Twice baked. They're going in for their second time.
Okay, I gotta get a fire going and grill these up.
I'm super hungry. It's twenty after six. Are you sure? Yep.
You right now? Yep. You don't wanna wait? No. The fire's going.
No, these gotta go in. They gotta cook for at least half an hour. Okay.
Well, it's gonna be at least that.
Come on, buddy! Come on! Come on, tripper! Come!
Come on, good boy. There you go, buddy. Hey, come on, tripper.
You go tuck him in, Autumn. Go tuck the doggie in.
Good boy.
Good boy. Go get you some peanut butter, buddy.
You go say hi, doggy. Tell me you love him. No, tell him hi. Say I love you.
No, you chipper.
You from.
I'm gonna look that.
We are gonna eat it without you on them. I'm sorry.
I'll eat the last one.
Do I eat the last one? Okay. Do you want it? Open your mouth.
Girl.
Guys, we both already had supper, so I guess you guys can both have a piece.
I want a piece of pie too. I want a piece of pie.
Two.
Fire kicking, eh?
What a bummer when we couldn't have it.
Now that we can, I appreciate it quite a bit.
Little birthday shock top.
Lane drop shock top.
Can't find a flat spot.
So all in all, this is a pretty decent birthday. I think I'm thirty six.
Honestly, don't know, thirty five or thirty six.
One of the two. I think it's thirty six.
It was a good birthday. I'm glad that Tripper's okay.
So here's my my concern with it. If it was a broken leg or something like that,
we would have known what the what the problem was. We would have addressed it.
Addressed it and dressed it.
Put him in a cast. Sure.
But we would have known what the problem was.
And then after time it would have been fine,
so now my concern and the doctor didn't seem to think it was such a big deal, but.
My concern was.
So if this just flares up every now and then, what if I'm like three days deep
in the wilderness with him, on a hike or backpacking trip or a canoe trip
or whatever, and he bends his leg the wrong way or falls or something and.
Schools in, and falls and busts up his leg again, and then now have a lame dog.
In the wilderness, what is?
There's pots and pans getting banged over there somewhere.
And bells dinging. Anyways, um.
That's my concern. So if if I knew what it was, then we could address it.
But we don't know what it is.
He's just on some anti-inflammatory medication and stuff like that.
But he's already hobbling around way better than he was,
and I'm sure that's due to the medication.
But it's good sign to see. So my dog's okay.
It's the worst case scenario, which I thought was going to be, wasn't.
Thank God. I'm very happy with that. My family.
My family gave me. I got some Lululemon jogging pants
that look kind of like long underwear, but I really like them.
I got that and the and a top that matches, a sweater that matches.
But I'll never wear it as a set. I'm just not that guy. I'll wear it.
Separately.
I better go see why my wife's yelling for my daughter. I'll be back with you.
Why are you calling her?
Okay. Well, where is she at, Emmy?
Anyways.
Got me a a jogging set, which I was very appreciative of, and my my mom.
Wrote me a nice email. Oh, I also got a lot of well wishes from all of my subscri
a lot of my subscribers on through a lot of my social media outlets.
So thank you very much, all you guys. That's always appreciated.
Every year, always get blown up, and it's nice to be thought of. You know.
So, oh, and I also got the news that my new four wheelers ready.
So I'm gonna head down in a couple days to go get that.
Gonna head a few hours south to get that, and I'll be meeting up
with a couple people from the four wheeling community that live around there.
They got some some decent size ATV channels on on YouTube as well on the YouTube.
Uh, mom called you because they can't walk. They're they're busy down there.
They're about to eat or something down there. Dale texted.
That's all.
Oh okay. Good girl.
I was gonna text mom that I was heading home, and then you called me.
Okay, you didn't you didn't hear mom calling you? No.
Just me. Yeah. All right. I had a good birthday. Thank you.
All right. Anyways, it's been a good day. Yeah.
So I'm gonna go ahead down and get my my four wheeler
and meet up with those guys and that'll be probably the next video.
And Tripper's out of commission now for about two weeks at least. So.
And they did not. No, you can't come to get my four wheeler.
And they did not open up the Crown Land camping for us today.
Was the day that we were all hoping for,
but they extended it another ten days or so. So, four wheeling videos here we come.
Crushed now if you put it in there.
Cicada shell, and I told her about the old school video I have.
What's called cicada fun.
Where, Will is pregnant for Emmy, and I scare her to death with.
The cicada shell.
Hey, are you?
Embracing your Irish roots? No, I'm tap dancing. Oh, nice.
Wear this one. Yeah.
Did you find it? I did. You show the camera.
Cicada fun, Emmy.
Like my mom, I will pick it up.
I'm gonna have to do it again. Okay, there you go. Oh, look at her!
Look at her! She's such a brave soul. Hold on! Don't look! Don't look!
She's such a brave soul. All right, I'm throwing him in the fire. Okay.
Go around. Go the other side.
Okay, hold on. Wait for me. You ready?
Mom, she's putting the baby's back.
Easy, buddy. Go slow. Go slow. Go slow. Go slow.
Here, stay, stay. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Hold this.
Point there. You ready? Watch what you're doing. No, you don't. No, you don't. Stay.
He's still woozy.
Thank you. You're welcome, honey. I hope you enjoyed your birthday.
Had a nap though. You did have a nap.
I can't believe you slept because the kids were screaming like crazy.
Well, it's always a good day when you have a nap.
Well, Tripper's gonna eat good tonight. That was too much for both of us.
Alright guys, thanks for watching.
I will see you guys soon on a four-wheeling video. I'm sure.
What do you want? What do you want? Do you want a piece?
Piece. A cake.
More cake. Say please. Please.
High five.
Nice to meet you.
I know, but it means the rest is gonna stick too. Isn't that, George?
Baby.
Say happy birthday.
It's like Jello. Oh, that looks super good. It is super good.
Yeah, since he's got some, you can have some too.
Do you like it?
On purpose. Yeah, I think so too. There's nothing in there.
Do you like it?
What do you like? Do you like the cake?
What buddy? Hello. Happy to you. Happy to you too.
My big guy, it's okay, man. You're good. You just relax.
Let me get you on some Rick Simpson, some RSO for you.
