The Region of Waterloo has been working
towards addressing a water capacity
constraint over the last 10 months
and today staff announced that more water is
coming online thanks to these containers behind me here.
That's good news for the development community and local residents.
So the first part of this unit that came online in September
is 20 liters per second which probably doesn't mean a lot
to those of you at home
but what it does mean is it's enough water for about 7
000 people in our community. So that's a significant amount of
people who we now have water available
so that they can come live here, build
their homes and and that water
is now available in the system. Between the 20
litres per second that was made available in September, we've allocated
an additional 20 litres per second
from the second stage of this project which
will come in by end of year
and an additional 10 litres per second earlier
this year. So that's 50 litres per second
that is available which is about
28,000 people worth so that's a lot
of capacity that's a lot of people coming
to this community it's about as 80%
of the amount of people we expect to come
here over the next five years
so just in this year alone we've been able to bring
on enough water to provide for 80%
of the people we expect to come and live in
the region so that to me is a significant milestone we've been working
with their area municipalities
who are now able to proceed forward with the
development applications that they're getting
in and able to approve those.
