Iran has offered to help mediate between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthis as their confrontation intensifies, saying it does not want “fire and war” to continue between two Muslim sides.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Tehran is “deeply concerned” about developments in the Arabian Peninsula and has repeatedly offered its “good offices” to facilitate dialogue. He argued that continued escalation would only benefit Israel.
The offer comes as Saudi Arabia intensifies strikes against Houthi positions and suspected launch sites in Yemen, while the Houthis have launched missiles and drones deep into Saudi territory and claimed attacks on aviation and energy infrastructure.
Baghaei also said Iran is reviewing Washington’s latest proposals concerning the broader US-Iran confrontation and will respond through mediators once that process is complete. Separately, he rejected American suggestions that Tehran has lost leverage over the Strait of Hormuz, arguing that developments in global energy markets tell a different story.
