This video provides a comprehensive review of the Insta360 X6, highlighting its improvements over the X5. The creator demonstrates the camera's real-world performance, focusing on its utility for vloggers, enhanced image quality, new hardware design, and AI-driven editing tools to show how it simplifies the content creation process.
In today's video, I'll be talking about
the new Insta360 X6 that I'm recording on
right now. This way,
you can see how this camera performs in the real world. Now,
full disclosure, this video is sponsored by Insta360.
However, everything that I share
throughout this video are my honest thoughts.
I'll be sharing what I like and what I don't like
about this camera. Before we get into everything,
instead of me just talking about the specs,
I'm going to bring you guys along this way.
I can show you how it performs and also talk about
the new features of this camera compared to the X5
and also talk about who this camera is ultimately
for. But first we're going
to do a car wash.
Now for vloggers, I would say
this is probably one of
the best all-in-one camera types you can get.
What's cool about shooting in 360 is that you
don't have to worry about framing since it
captures everything around you and you can choose
the framing later in post. So when I'm doing
an activity like right now washing my car I can simply
focus on the moment while the camera captures everything around me.
And another advantage is
that one recording can give me multiple angles
and perspectives to choose from. So for example I can
have a shot of me and my reaction
and then switch to a POV shot of me washing the car. And another
Another cool part is that if I walk around and vlog with the X6,
you can see it removes
the selfie stick automatically,
making it look like the camera is floating in the air.
The next thing I want to talk about is built and design.
So the X6 is shorter and more compact than the X5.
They also remove the physical buttons
and the controls are mainly on the screen with
a haptic feedback.
but you still have a dedicated record button to the side.
Now you still got the same replaceable
lenses. So if you happen to break one of these lenses,
you can get the replaceable kit and
replace those on location without having to send the entire camera in.
Ooh, it's getting super hot.
Now what's great is that once I press record,
I can feel the vibration through the selfie stick,
which is great. If you don't want audio feedback,
you also got these new contact points at the
bottom to use it with other accessories like a powered selfie stick.
What I also notice is the
startup time on the X6
which is much faster than on the X5 allowing me to capture moments much
faster. So before we head to the next place I actually want
to capture a cool perspective
of my car and to do that we're actually going to use
this car mount from SmallRig. By the way I'll
all products in the video description below.
And one over here. Now mount the X6 on this.
Now because the screen is facing away from me,
I'm going to connect it to the Insta360 app. And
by connecting the Insta360 app with the X6,
I get a live preview of what the camera sees. I can also
adjust the framing. I can zoom in, zoom out,
you know, change the perspective and just get an idea
of how the shot will look like.
The next thing I need to do is extend this pole all the way.
Let me check how this looks like from behind.
I think this looks cool.
Right. Let me just open
the trunk. Oh, goodbye. So I just got
the ND filters out of my trunk and Insta360 sent me
three different versions, the ND16, ND32 and ND64.
Now let's say because it's quite
sunny outside, I might use the ND64. Aren't they beautiful?
Now you can see we have that natural
motion blur. I hope you
were able to see the difference.
So let's talk about sensor and
image quality. The X6 has a 1 over 1.1 inch sensor,
while the X5 has a 1 over 1.28 inch sensor.
So the X6 has a larger sensor
and what's really great is that I can capture my shots in iLog,
which is a flat picture profile that gives me more dynamic range
and flexibility to color grade
my footage. So everything you're seeing right now has been color graded
and I'm actually using
my own LUTs that I created for iLog specifically,
which is a one-click solution that instantly gives
you a stylized look in your video.
So if you guys are interested, be sure to check out the link in
the video description below.
And something I forgot to mention is that also included in those
look packs are my go-to vlog settings for the X6.
This way you can set it once and forget and get
the results you're seeing right now.
The X6 offers 8K up to 50 frames per second, while on the X5
you're limited to 30 frames per second.
So by being able to record in a higher frame rate,
you can create awesome slow motion shots in your videos.
So let's now do a side by side comparison.
Here is the X6 and here is the X5.
I'm recording in 8K using the standard picture profile
25 frames per second. And this is how it looks like.
Let me know if you guys can see a difference.
So let's now do another comparison.
I'm now recording in iLog on the X6,
while on the X5, I'm using the standard color profile.
And this is how it looks like. It might
not be a fair comparison,
but I'm just going to throw it out there for you guys so that you can
see the difference.
And I'm just going to apply a conversion LUT on the iLog footage.
So I'm now using another suction mount that we can attach
to the car to get different perspectives
while i'm driving to the lake okay now accessories
are a big part that make the 360 camera versatile
and throughout this video you've seen
that i've used different accessories such as a selfie stick
the car mount now we're using a suction cup
and the best part is that most of these accessories
don't take up a lot of space you can easily bring them along
and allow you to get really
unique perspectives. Another accessory
that is very useful is the Mic Pro from Insta360 that I'm
using right now. The best part is that I can connect it
to the X6 without needing a receiver
and this allows me to record clean audio
while recording myself from a distance. So for example
like right now where I'm sitting inside the car
and the camera's outside I'm still able to record
clean audio this way. We are back again.
So right now we're at the Dürrlersee, which is my favorite
lake of all. If you've been watching my videos,
I love coming here because it's quiet. There are not
so many people. And also I love being around nature.
Anyway, back to audio. The internal mic
on the X6 is actually pretty good.
To show you how it sounds like, let's switch over to the internal
mic. So the Mic Pro is now disconnected
and you're listening to the internal mic on the X6.
Now they've also improved the mics.
You've got four mics instead of three. And the best part
is that you've got built-in wind protection on all four mics.
So if you're filming in windy
conditions, you still get usable audio.
Now being able to use the internal mic is really great
because it simplifies a lot of things.
You don't necessarily have to use a wireless mic to get
good audio quality and it's also just way quicker
when you're vlogging on the go. So right now I
have the selfie stick extended all the way
and you be the judge of the audio. But to me it sounds
pretty good and especially if you forgot your wireless mic
or maybe the wireless mic ran out
of battery you're still able to use the internal mic.
While this is a small feature it's very
practical. The X6 features built-in internal storage of 47 gigabytes
which is great in case
you forgot your sd card at home or your sd card fills up
and this way you can switch over to the
internal storage which the x5 does not have they
also improved the thermal management also the
battery life is longer on the x6 it uses a 2600 milliamp battery
while the x5 has a 2400 milliamp
battery. Insta360 claims you can record 8k 30 frames
per second for 2 hours and 20 minutes.
They also improved the design of the batteries
which is now not part of the exterior shell,
so it's much easier to swap out batteries.
What a view! Now one of the most significant upgrades
of the X6 is the Instaframe 2.0.
So where Instaframe becomes very useful is when doing
these talking head videos where you don't need
to show your entire surroundings. Now you can record
in iLog, which is great. So you can simply select yourself
as the subject and have it to track you
throughout the shot, which later on gives you a 16 by 9 video file,
which saves you a lot of time
not having to reframe your shot in post.
Now, the best part is, is that you can include 360 video as
a backup and you can use the backup in case you don't like
the automatic framing. So you can then
choose the 360 video to reframe your shot.
I would say this shooting mode is probably
the best for vloggers as you get the convenience of a 4K video
and 360 video in case you need
it. In terms of photos,
they've also increased the megapixel from 72 on the X5 to 120 megapixel
on the X6. This way you have more resolution
to work with and can reframe your shot without
losing much quality. Now a useful tool
when it comes to editing is AI Director, which is designed
to make 360 video editing easier.
And what it does is it automatically analyzes and edits your
footage. So this way you can create a summary of your day,
but you still have the option to reframe
your shot manually if you want to.
Now unfortunately it doesn't work with iLog footage, so hopefully
they'll update that in the future.
But I think AI Director in general is a great feature for those
who want a quick way to edit their 360 footage
and want a quick workflow for posting it on their
social media. So the last thing I want to talk about
is who the X6 is for. If you've never
used a 360 camera before, then the X6 is a great option,
I would skip the X5 and go
straight for the X6. And the reason for that is especially
the InstaFrame 2.0 is a game changer
for vloggers. If you're recording in the standard profile,
you get both the flat 4K video and the
360 video file. First of all, saves you a lot of time,
but still gives you that flexibility to
choose the framing afterwards.
Now, if you're coming from the X5, you have to ask yourself
if those upgrades are worth it for you.
So 10-bit iLog, you get a 8K 360 video backup
with 4K flat video file.
You can record super slow motion in 4K,
120 frames per second.
You've got internal storage of 47 gigabytes.
To me, this is a great all-in-one camera
that offers a lot of features
to capture your moments conveniently.
You can really focus on the experience
while this camera captures everything around you.
And once you get back home, you can simply
choose the moments that are important to you.
So I hope this video was helpful. If you do have
any questions, feel free to leave a comment below.
Also be sure to check out my iLog LUT pack.
Other than that, thanks for watching
and I will see you in the next one.
