AI GeneratedThe show celebrates the winners of the second annual Hager Hall of Fame Dads Contest, which honors exceptional fathers and father figures. With the help of NFL legend Terrell Davis, the program recognizes three state winners for their selflessness and community impact, awarding them custom blazers, wardrobes, and cash prizes, culminating in the announcement of the national grand prize winner.
All right, everybody, welcome back to our Father's Day show.
You know, a couple months ago, we partnered up with Hager
to launch the second annual Hager Hall of Fame Dads Contest
to celebrate America's greatest dads and father figures.
So let's take a look.
This year, it could be you or a deserving dad you know
enter for a chance to win a VIP trip to the Pro Football Hall of Fame
enshrinement ceremony by uploading a photo or video
along with your story telling Hager
why your dad or father figure is Hall of Fame worthy.
Then, on June 10th, just in time for Father's Day,
we will be bringing on the three state winners
and announcing the national winner here on our show.
This is a great way to tell your dad that you love him
and that you appreciate all he does for you.
All right, everybody.
Well, today is the day, and here to help me announce the winners
is Pro Football Hall of Famer, who is a Denver Bronco legend
and a two-time Super Bowl champion.
Give it up for my man Terrell Davis.
Yeah.
Luke.
You can run him over, boy.
I tried.
That was nice, man.
You were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2017, man.
Yeah.
How did it feel to put on that iconic jacket?
You know, this jacket is, I mean, this is what you look forward to
when you're looking at the Hall of Fame.
You envision yourself wearing this jacket,
this beautiful gold Hager jacket,
which is the official jacket of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
So, to finally put this jacket on, I'm saying,
I didn't take it off for about a week.
It smelled.
I didn't get it washed.
But I didn't care.
I was going to keep this jacket on.
Do your kids know that their dad is a legend?
I don't, you know what?
I don't know.
I don't think so.
I think the first time they realized,
their friends told them at school that their dad
played football and was pretty good.
So, now, they think their dad's the best football player ever.
You know?
So.
Yeah.
All right, y'all, it's time to reveal
which dads are getting an early Father's Day present.
Hager received so many heartwarming
and inspiring nominations from all 50 states,
but the first state winner comes all the way from Connecticut.
Take a look.
For Danielle and Matthew,
their father has always been a Hall of Fame dad,
but it wasn't until Bernie O'Leary
and his family received devastating news
that they understood how big an impact
their father had made on everyone around him.
At 51 years old, Bernie was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
For his daughter, who nominated him,
this was the moment she realized her dad wasn't Superman after all.
Luckily, Bernie's doctors successfully removed the tumor.
And while he recovered, Bernie's family was overwhelmed
by the number of people who came to support their hero.
But for a man who instilled the importance of hard work into his kids,
this wasn't going to be a setback.
Instead, when he turned 55,
Bernie decided he would retire from his corporate job
and become a volunteer firefighter.
Today, Bernie is 61 years old
and enjoys life as a lieutenant
in the Prospect, Connecticut Fire Department,
having received two commendation awards
and an endless supply
of respect from his community.
Everybody, give it up for Bernie and his daughter, Danielle.
So Bernie, let me ask you, man.
What does it mean to you
when you hear what you mean to your family?
You know, it's very humbling.
You guys saw the tape there.
It's been a rough road, but I've gotten through it all.
And the letter that my daughter wrote for me is incredible,
and it really touched my heart.
I'm all about family.
I love my family dearly.
There's nothing I wouldn't do for them.
It's just wonderful.
Yeah.
It really is wonderful.
Good job, man.
And to be here and possibly be a Hall of Famer was Terrell?
Really?
Come on.
It feels great, let me tell you.
All right, y'all, let's meet our next Hall of Fame dad.
He's our New Mexico winner.
Watch this.
Richard Grace's two daughters, Caitlyn and Christian,
said that their dad's motto has always been family first.
But as a history teacher and head football coach
for the Telerosa Wildcats in New Mexico,
Richard has also been a father
to each and every player on his team.
When Caitlyn nominated her dad,
She wrote about one player in particular
who lost his mother unexpectedly.
The boy's first phone call was to Coach Grace.
Richard's dedication extends well past the field, though.
Every week, he hosts family dinners
for all the boys and their families.
And when coaches are making sure these boys are fed,
he's staying on top of their grades
and lending his ear to whatever they need.
Not only is Richard a Hall of Fame dad for his two girls,
he's also made an impact on every student
who's been lucky enough to find the father figure
when they needed one the most.
Welcome Richard, his wife, Bobbie,
and their daughters, Caitlin and Kristen.
So Richard, are you surprised to be here?
You know, very surprised.
You know, you wanna be the best father for your kids,
you know, a role model.
I didn't have that.
My dad passed away when I was six, you know,
so I didn't have, you know, that to lean on.
And I hope that I, you know,
was gonna do the best for my girls.
And to be here and to be nominated like this,
It's just surreal.
It's amazing.
Yeah.
Well, you did a good job, man.
So far, both of you, man, great job
for what you mean to your family.
All right, we got one more dad, and he's from Mississippi.
Let's take a look.
As the superintendent of the top school district
in Mississippi, Dr. Matthew Dillon has proven
that he, at his core, is a giver.
With 4,000 kids in his flock,
you can regularly catch Matthew attending
his students' sporting events, award banquets,
and debates decked out in a suit and a smile.
Matthew's wife, Marianne, nominated the father of three
because his selflessness has no bounds.
On top of everything else,
not only is the 40-year-old superintendent
the founder and mentor of an at-risk student program,
he also serves as a deacon in his local church.
Marianne describes her husband as a funny, loving jokester
who loves being a playmate, coach,
and teacher for his children.
Both as a father and as a pillar of support in his district,
Matthew has truly set the bar for compassion,
consideration, and selflessness for generations to come.
All right, everybody,
put your hands together for Matthew, his wife, Mary Ann,
and their kids, Nathan, Peyton, and Anna Kate.
Matthew, now I hear you're a huge Hagar fan.
What was your reaction when you got the call?
Honestly, at first I thought it was a prank.
We like to have a little fun in our office from time to time,
and I thought maybe it was my turn at my expense.
But after I found out, hey,
this might be legitimate, it got very exciting.
Having the opportunity to highlight
my beautiful family and what they mean to me
and for my wife to be the one to nominate me is very, very special.
In addition to that, I think it's
an opportunity to highlight the over 4,000 kids
that I work with on a daily basis
in the Petal School District and Petal, Mississippi
that means so much to me.
So it's a special opportunity to be here,
very excited, and I love these kids so much.
I give all these guys a round of applause.
Good job.
Great job, fellas.
Now, what I want to do is I want to hear
from the person that nominated each one of you dads.
Let's start down on the end.
Matthew was nominated by his wife, Marianne.
Marianne, what made you submit your husband?
Well, it's very atypical of me.
I don't usually do contests on social media,
but the Hager brand caught my eye first.
He's a notoriously snappy dresser, more so than I am most days.
And it just said, is your father figure?
And that, to me, encompassed both my children and his district.
And I thought, snappy dresser, super dad,
no better candidate for this contest.
So I just had to do it.
Wow.
Now, Kaitlyn, you nominated your father, Richard.
Why does he deserve to be the Hager Hall of Fame dad this year?
My dad means the world to us.
I mean, all of us, our whole family.
But also his kids, his football kids.
And he does everything.
He opens his heart to, I mean, strangers.
Anybody he meets, he opens his heart to.
And so I think that really made him a Hall of Fame dad.
Yeah.
That's great.
All right.
Last but not least, we got Danielle,
who also nominated her father, Bernie.
So, Danielle, what do you think about your father?
What memory that you both share comes to mind?
Well, holidays are a big deal at our house.
So any sort of holiday or special event always come to mind
when we talk about family time.
My mom is an over-the-top decorator.
It's always a great time.
but I think the moment that really touches my heart
is my specialest moment with my dad, most special.
I'm a language arts teacher.
Most special moment is dancing with him at my wedding.
And when he was sick, I wasn't married,
didn't have any kids, and I was really worried.
Would he be a part of those moments?
Thankfully, thanks to his doctors
and the support system that we have and our faith, he's here.
He was able to dance with me at my wedding.
He is a huge Beatles fan.
I picked this song in my life because in my life,
I always loved him more.
Equal to my mom.
Equal to both.
All right.
These three dads are all Hall of Fame quality,
and I know we've got some special prizes in store for them today.
But Hager also wants to treat everyone.
Listen to this.
Everyone in our studio audience is going
to get a coupon for two free pair of pants.
Well, now, Terrell,
it's that time, man.
Will you do the honors?
I will.
For his commitment to serving his community
that couldn't be stopped by a brain tumor or retirement,
we're recognizing Connecticut's Hager Hall of Fame dad,
Bernie O'Leary.
We're sending you home with a custom Hall of Fame dad's blazer,
a full Hager wardrobe, and $5,000.
Yes.
Congratulations,
man.
Congratulations, Bernie.
Congratulations.
All right.
All right, Terrell, who's next?
Our second state winner is a devoted father
who not only makes time for his kids living under his own roof,
but also to the countless students he mentors.
We are honored to recognize Dr. Matthew Dillon,
Mississippi's Hager Hall of Fame dad,
who is also receiving a Hager Custom Hall of Fame dad's blazer,
a Hager wardrobe, and again, $5,000.
Congratulations.
Congratulations, all right.
Hey, listen, that means that 2019's Hager Hall of Fame dad,
grand prize winner is Richard.
Richard, you won a VIP trip
to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Shrine in San
Richard, you won yourself $10,000.
$10,000.
Congratulations.
Great job.
Congratulations.
Wow.
Yeah, let's stay right here.
Hey, congratulations to all of these Hall of Fame dads.
And a big thank you to Hager Clothing Co. for making it all happen.
