What really happens when you fall into a black hole? The famous Event Horizon Telescope image does not show a physical wall or the event horizon itself. It shows hot plasma and strongly bent light surrounding a dark gravitational shadow — while the true horizon is a causal boundary beyond which no future-directed signal can return to the distant universe.

In this documentary, we follow an imaginary descent from the measured exterior of a black hole through the event horizon and into the regimes where our confidence begins to change. We explore gravitational redshift, tidal forces, spaghettification, Kerr black holes, frame dragging, inner-horizon instability, mass inflation, singularities, Hawking radiation and the black-hole information paradox.

We also examine black-hole complementarity, firewalls, fuzzballs, the Page curve, quantum extremal surfaces, islands and the search for new physics through gravitational-wave ringdowns and horizon-scale imaging. Black holes do not show that physics randomly breaks. They show us, with unusual precision, where observation ends, where tested theory continues, and where a deeper theory of quantum gravity is still required.
