#History #Ancient
In the Sumerian poem Gilgamesh and Huwawa, the Cedar Forest is a sacred mountain forest, and the god Enlil has appointed Huwawa as its guardian. 📜🏔️ Gilgamesh, afraid of death and eager for lasting fame, decides to cut down the cedars and kill Huwawa, and his companion Enkidu warns him against it, because he knows how dangerous the guardian is. 😰⚔️ Gilgamesh asks the sun god Utu for help, and Utu gives him seven warriors to go with him. ☀️🛡️ Huwawa is protected by seven terrifying auras, divine radiances that make him nearly invincible. ✨💥 Gilgamesh gets around them with trickery and flattery, persuading Huwawa to give up the auras one by one until the guardian stands powerless. 🎭🪄 Then Huwawa begs for mercy and Gilgamesh pities him, but Enkidu insists on ending it and kills him. 😢🗡️ They carry Huwawa's head to Enlil, and the god is furious that his guardian was killed, taking the seven auras and scattering them across the land. 😠🌍 In this video, we walk through the whole forbidden-forest story from the Sumerian poem, from the guardian and his auras to the cost of cutting down what the gods protected. 🔍
