Restoring My Grandfather’s Handmade Shears

Rusty Restoration
Rusty Restoration

30 years ago, these handmade shears were left in a storage room and forgotten.

My grandfather made them himself from a Chevrolet Rambler leaf spring, using very simple tools. He also made many other things in his workshop, including water tanks, heater flues, funnels, and oil measuring cups from galvanized sheet metal.

I’m 37 now, and I finally decided to bring this old pair of shears back to life.

In this restoration, I completely disassemble the shears, remove the rust, make a new handle, extract a broken bolt, sharpen the blades, make and heat-treat a new blade bolt, make a wooden base, repaint everything, and put it all back together.

The final test shows what these old handmade shears can still do after around 30 years of neglect.

I also built the sandblaster used in this restoration myself for about $50. You can find that build on my channel.

I live in Iran, where making a living from this kind of work isn’t easy. Every view and every subscriber means a lot to me.

Thank you for watching and supporting my work.
