Growing beets from seed is pretty easy, but there are a few things you need to know before you start planting!

In this video, we're planting beets in our raised beds and talking about proper spacing, planting depth, soil conditions, watering, and one of the most interesting things about beet seeds — one beet “seed” can actually produce multiple seedlings!

We'll explain why most beet varieties are considered multigerm, why you don't necessarily have to thin every cluster of seedlings, and how proper spacing from the beginning can help give those beet roots plenty of room to grow.

We'll also talk about the other half of the beet plant that sometimes gets overlooked — the greens! Beet greens are delicious and can be harvested young for salads or allowed to grow larger and cooked much like Swiss chard.

Whether you're growing beets for the roots, the greens, or both, we'll show you a simple way to get them planted and growing.
