After a failed attempt with a Miniverse Cafe Series 4 kit due to malfunctioning UV resin, the creator decides to recreate the watermelon slushy miniature from scratch using polymer clay. Despite several setbacks and a desire to give up, the artist successfully crafts a more refined version of the miniature through a detailed manual process.
I opened up a Make It Mini from Miniverse, the Cafe Series 4, and make the content of it. It was
this watermelon with that slushy thingy inside, and for some reason the UV resin wouldn't work,
so it looks like... yeah, you can see it on the picture. But I decided to make it in miniature
anyway, even though that I wanted to give up. I'm not sure I made this one justice, but
I tried anyway. So now let's get into me making this in miniature. So this Make It Mini ball
actually was a fail for me, because I couldn't get that resin to harden in any shape or form,
and I tried everything I have of UV lights and nothing was working. I almost gave up on this one
and actually didn't really want to build it, but I thought, why not, maybe I can make it better.
So I took my clay, you saw I used some white with a tiny bit of yellow and a tiny bit of green,
and I mixed that together, and I rolled that out on a medium setting on my pasta machine.
The mold is made by a two-component mold putty, where you mix it one-to-one, and I made that over a
ball tool, just to have something to grab it on while I was shaping that round shape that I wanted
for this mold to have. And then I just let it dry on my ball tool, and then I took it off when it
was done. Now I am just making sure I have a nice smooth and not too thick layer around the mold
here. I'm not going to make a straight line right away, because I am going to wait with that until
I have the next layer of clay on there. For the next layer, I am using a darker green. It is
mixed together with a little bit of yellow, and I actually think I put in a little white as well.
I'm not sure about that. Nope, just green and yellow mixed together, and then I am rolling
that out on my pasta machine into a thicker setting than the thin layer we just did.
This one I actually made too thick, so I had to make it over again, but I used this footage
for it. So don't make this layer too thick. I made this one way too thick, and I will show you later.
Then I am going to make these lines on the watermelon with some of this darker green.
This is just a green with no yellow in there, and I'm using that and making some lines here and
there, and I'm just doing them willy-nilly, because I think that makes a nicer look.
So I placed some lines here and there all the way around, and now I'm just scratching a tiny bit of
my clay off and placing that where I want it, and I am making sure that everything is nice and flat
all the way around. Then I flattened the bottom of it so it has a stand place, and I am going to
cut off the edge here so that it is nice and smooth all the way around, and you can see here
it's really thick, so I had to make this one over again. So here you can see how thick that green
layer turned out, and it's way too thick compared with the original one, but I actually did decide
to go ahead and make this one all done, and then I found out that I lost half of my footage
of this, so I went ahead and made a new one, because I thought this one was anyway not as
good as I wanted it to be. I mixed some translucent or transparent with some rose and some xmas red,
mostly the transparent one, and then I rolled that out in a middle setting. Then I decided I
need the spoon as well, so I took some grey and I just rolled that through my pasta machine,
and I rolled it in a setting five on the pasta machine. Now I am cutting out the top part of
the spoon. I don't need a whole spoon for this, because you won't see the bottom part of the
spoon or the spoon itself, you will see the handle part, so that's what I'm cutting out
right here. I'm shaping it a tiny bit so it looks a little more like a spoon when you see it when
it's all done. Then I take my newer and thinner watermelon shell here, and I'm going to put a tiny
bit of bacon bond in the bottom here. You could put some of that liquid Fimo in there, that would
work perfect here as well, so no worry. And I fill a tiny bit of some rest clay into that bottom part
of the watermelon, otherwise I would have to cut a lot of these pieces in there. I could mix this
with some sand and then make it look a little more like the picture of the done result of the
original here, but I don't really like the result of this one, so I decided I'm going to cut these
into squares. The first one I made, I cut them into triangular pieces, because I was thinking about
triangular cuts, I don't know why, but I actually think when you cut a watermelon, you cut them more
into square pieces than in triangular shapes. And then I'm just going to fill up that little
watermelon shell with that. Then I placed that half spoon into the watermelon, and you don't even see
that the rest of the spoon is missing. And I'm just going to fill up this little bowl of watermelon
with a lot of these pieces of watermelon, my squares, just to make sure it is really nice and
full. When I'm happy with how many watermelon pieces I have in that shell, I am using the tip
of my knife to give all these pieces that you can see here on the top, a tiny bit of a, um,
single little piece, a tiny bit here, making a little more structure on that, I think that's a
word, texture, that's a word, I'm making a lot more texture on there. Then I rolled out a piece of
green clay in a very thin setting on my pasta machine, and I'm cutting out two small teardrops
for the leaves. You can use a needle tool to make some texture in them, but I am using my little
leaf mold here I made. I made it with some small leaves I found in my garden a long time ago. I have
a video for how I did that somewhere, I will find it and place a link for it in the info box below.
I made two of these and placed that on top of my watermelon, and now it's time for baking this
little creation. After baking I gave it a tiny bit of glaze to make it look a little more wet and
shiny, juicy actually. So that is the build for today. I'm not really really happy about this
build, but I think this build was better than the original from the My Miniverse Ball. It's like,
it didn't really work this time, and it's the first one that I really did not like, and it
made it hard for me to work with this one. This is the first one I did. It's okay, but it's not
that good, because the rim is too thick. You can see that green thick rim compared with the other
one I just made. The difference is really huge, so I like the newest one better. But here is the
result. I'm not happy with this one, but you get it anyway. Thank you for watching, and if you came
this far, I'm really proud of you. I almost gave up on this build a few times, but here it is.
So thank you for watching, and happy crafting!
