Binnein Mòr in Winter… and I Had to Turn Back [ep 5]

I set out to climb Binnein Mòr, one of Scotland’s dramatic Highland mountains, while living the solo van life in the Scottish Highlands. The plan was simple: summit the mountain and take in the views. But as I climbed higher the conditions quickly changed. Deep snow blocked the route, the slope became too steep, and with daylight fading it became clear that turning back was the safest decision. Not every mountain day ends at the summit. After the attempt, I head back to Kinlochleven for a slow reset day in the van — cooking, relaxing, and reflecting on the climb. This is the reality of solo hiking in Scotland: incredible landscapes, changing weather, and learning when to respect the mountains.
