Wild Dogs and Hyenas Battle Over an Impala After Dramatic Water Chase

A pack of more than 20 African wild dogs became active late one afternoon and started hunting.

One dog chased an impala into a dam while the rest of the pack arrived and prevented it from escaping. Several wild dogs entered the water and swam behind the impala, seemingly trying to tire it and force it back toward shore.

As the drama unfolded, spotted hyenas arrived hoping to steal the meal. Near the shoreline, the wild dogs finally caught the impala and dragged it from the water.

The puppies fed while the adults worked together to keep the hyenas at bay. In the end, the wild dogs won the battle and the hyenas had to settle for leftovers.

Filmed in the Greater Kruger area, South Africa.
