When Dementia Impacts Movement | Therapy & Love in Action to the Rescue

This live is a real glimpse into the everyday challenges — and victories — of dementia caregiving. 💜
During this visit, I noticed Mama was keeping her hands tightly closed. This can happen with advanced dementia due to muscle rigidity, stiffness, or loss of coordination. In this case, I think it's more of a coordination issue. When the brain changes, the body often follows — and small tasks like holding a spoon can become difficult.
I'm fighting to keep Mama independent as long as I can. I encouraged her to open her hands and feed herself. These small movements help her stay active, independent, and connected. The nurse also suggested we bring in physical and occupational therapy, which are key in keeping her joints flexible and improving motor control.
Dementia doesn’t just affect memory — it affects the body, too. But with patience, love, and consistent care, we can help our loved ones maintain their dignity and strength. 💜
