Good Intentions, Tough Reality: Our Disastrous Home Visit with Dementia 💔 #CaregiverLife

Divas and Dementia

We just had a disastrous home visit, and I’m sharing it because too many caregivers think they’re alone when dementia takes over a moment we planned with love and good intentions.

It is highly recommended to get persons living with dementia out for some fresh air, and when staff is short, I like to bring Mama home for a little comfort, food, and family time. But sometimes… dementia has intentions of its own. 😔

Mama was overstimulated and wouldn’t sit down to eat. Her energy was sky high, and before I knew it, I was fighting back a full anxiety attack trying to keep her safe, calm, and happy. I know this isn’t talked about enough, but caregivers experience stress, panic, and overwhelm too—even when we’re doing our very best.

If you’re caring for a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer’s, please hear me:
💜 You are not failing.
💜 You are doing more than most will ever understand.
💜 Some days are simply hard.

We can have all the planning, prayers, and preparation in the world, but dementia does not care about our plans. It shifts the mood, changes the day, and reminds us that flexibility is part of this journey.

Thank you for being here, for watching, and for “Norma-lizing” compassion in dementia care with us.
