Trump Threatens to 'Annihilate' Iran during Un Address

Relations between the US and the UK are “more up” now that Andy Burnham is prime minister than when Sir Keir Starmer held the role, Donald Trump has claimed.

The US president made the remarks in his first face-to-face meeting with Burnham on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

During the meeting, Burnham claimed he had “established a good connection” with Trump, adding that the pair had “taken that further today” as they discussed trade, energy and immigration among other topics.

Responding to a question on fluctuating relations between London and Washington, the US president told the press after a bilateral meeting at the UN in New York: “I think you’re up. Well they’re more now than they were with your last prime minister, let me put it that way.”

But it was not all warm words from the president, as he labelled the UK’s agreement with Mauritius to hand over the Chagos Islands is a “terrible deal” and “ridiculous”.

In his speech at the UN Trump also said he faced a "big decision" over whether to 'annihilate' Iran or seek a peace deal.
