Recovering from a major shoulder reconstruction, the narrator embarks on a road trip with his friend Curtis to regain his momentum before the Nitro Circus World Tour. The journey takes them through the Oregon coast and western Idaho, blending outdoor adventure, camaraderie, and a passion for riding.
Sometimes the best medicine is a trip for the boys.
A few months after a major shoulder reconstruction, and maybe a month too soon, I was craving
some adventure.
So I hit up Curtis Downs, and we decided we should hit the road.
These are important.
A couple bikes, some beers, and camping gear.
It's the perfect recipe for getting back into the swing of things before the Nitro
Circus World Tour kicks off.
From sand dune surfing and crabbing on the Oregon coast, to ripping private mountain
bike mecca, we got to hang with some good old friends, and make some new ones.
We cruised some local haunts, and discovered sporting clay shooting might be the best sport
on earth.
Capping it off with some proper moto riding in the steep and deep woods of western Idaho,
this is an adventure for the ages.
Grab your friends, crack some cold ones, and start planning the next adventure for yourself.
It's time to head for the mountains.
Two things.
There's not enough coffee in the world for this to make any sense right now.
And two, I found a guitar.
Why does the music stop playing?
Because it's warning you that something's behind you, but it's the bikes.
I hate smart cars so much.
Why does technology have to technology so much?
Restart it.
Get it in neutral.
Set this to restart.
Get you on the marker.
Alright Kato.
Hey dog.
Get us some dinner.
That's the plan.
Look at me.
I am the captain now.
Curtis is a landlocked Idaho boy, and I am no brilliant seaman, but someone's got to
navigate, and Curtis is going to figure out how to throw some crab pots, and pull them
back up, and figure it out I guess.
The work is done.
Well, should we go sightseeing?
Dude, this one's got like alien death grip going on.
Full survival mode.
It's in this...
I'll meet you in there.
First crab bite.
It sucks.
That was amazing.
Man, homeboy got my temper flaring a little.
Oh, I'm not in the chicken.
You're doing great, pal.
And that's coming from a guy who has no idea what we're doing.
What are you doing?
They're not worth cooking.
It's two...
It's not.
Two friends that have just shared a bonding experience with us.
I'd say, I'd say let them live.
Emperor Curtis, let them live.
Thanks for the ride, fellas.
You were about to punch a crab.
I was willing to punch a crab so hard I'd crack its shell.
I just love the knee jerk reaction you got.
You're like...
I was pissed.
There's a brand new trail system opening up here on the Oregon coast called Torta.
It's the Tillamook Off-Road Trail Alliance.
We've been doing a bunch of fundraising for it, and it's finally just hit its opening
first phase of building.
So Josh and a couple of our friends are up working on the trails right now.
He shot me a text after we were crabbing and said come out and check it out.
So I'm going to show Curtis because it's something we've talked about for years, and we've heard
about it for years, and now there's finally machines on the ground and doing work.
That's a thing of beauty right there, gentlemen.
What are you talking about?
Dude, thanks for the invite.
Oh, hi.
Hi, I missed you too.
Dude, how the heck are you?
Is this like the start of it?
Yeah.
Let's go check this out.
Yeah, sick.
Plenty of room for some maneuvers.
So much real estate.
This is real life.
What's happening?
Kind of a little short.
Oh, sick.
I can't wait to put my tires on this.
All right, trip's over.
I'm staying to build.
I'm staying to ride.
Not a bad spot, huh?
And then, yeah, the rest of the trail system is basically all of this behind us.
We get to get the first look at the first trail being built.
Josh and a bunch of local guys, myself and our friends, have been advocating for this
place become a real public trail system.
First trail is almost finished right now.
So hopefully, by the end of this year, it'll be open to everyone.
Come on, come all.
Come enjoy it.
Should we go rip a dune?
I'm really not looking forward to hiking this, but I can't wait to ride down it.
Oh, this is going to hurt.
My lungs and legs hurt just thinking about it.
You're just going for it?
I think I'm in the wrong gear.
Terrible idea.
Oh, my gosh.
It looked like such a good idea from the parking lot.
One, two steps forward.
One step backward.
Here we go.
You know what's the most fun, though, is just drifting on the beach.
Yeah.
Oh, hello.
You guys can't even see me.
I'm just a floating face.
Whoa.
Just like that, we got a bed.
Hopefully, there's no rain.
Let's do a good day.
Not bad, K-Dog.
Day one of being back.
How does it feel?
Oh, I can still do this.
Crabbing, doing rips.
We even got to see some new trails.
Not only that, we get to ride mountain bikes tomorrow.
Full day.
Not going to lie, that was really sick getting to ride a sand dune because I've never rode sand on a mountain bike before,
and it definitely had it a lot different than what I thought.
You just got to embrace the drift.
Yeah.
It was fun.
Got bit by a crab.
Pulled my first crab pop today.
What would you do if a crab bit you?
I don't know.
I know my reflex is punch it.
Holy smokes.
You almost assaulted a wild animal.
Oh, you had it coming.
Really looking forward to tomorrow, though.
Dirt's nice.
Oh, we're scoring on dirt.
Just punch around in there a bunch, ride our faces off, and then head north.
My man.
Another good one tomorrow.
