Video Summary
AI GeneratedScott from Kentucky Ballistics tests a historic double-barrel eight-bore rifle once owned by Cal Pappas. The video demonstrates the weapon's immense power through a series of destructive tests on various targets, comparing its massive cartridge to common calibers and evaluating its recoil and energy transfer.
What are you doing? I'm trying to come up with intros, okay, but I'm having rider's block and
I'm not, I'm not having very much luck. Okay, well hold on. I think I can help you out here.
You and the T-Rex in a bathtub. I tried that once before. It didn't really work out, so no.
You and W in a bathtub. W hasn't showered in years. We'd have to throw away the bathtub.
No, no. Me and you in a bathtub. No bathtubs, Scooter. No bathtubs. You are weird. Has anyone
ever told you that? You're weird. Okay, I got it. I got it. Okay, here's the intro, okay.
You not being able to come up with intros and then I come in and I try to help you come up
with intros and like that's the intro like me helping you come up with so kind of like what
we're doing right now. Exactly. What's up everybody? My name is Scott and you're watching
Kentucky Ballistics. You know my favorite rifle that I have here on the channel is a four-bore,
but the four-bore has a little brother that gets a lot of attention and that I have not tried out
yet and today I have arguably the most famous double barrel eight-bore rifle ever. Pop-up storm
just hit and we had to run and take cover and everything's kind of soaked now. Let's get back
to talking about this double barrel eight-bore. So what is an eight-bore rifle? Well, this thing
has 0.875 inch diameter barrels and it fires a massive round. This thing is 1,375 grains
and moving at around 1,400 feet per second. The eight-bore rifle was the 30-06 of elephant hunting
back in the 1860s, 70s, 80s, and 90s and this gun, which is a Walter Lott, was made in the mid-1880s.
Even people who are carrying rifles as big as four-bore still most likely had an eight-bore
rifle and this one has 24 inch barrels, weighs around 17 pounds, so as you can imagine it
probably wasn't very light to carry around all day. Just like four-bore rifles, eight-bore rifles
are very difficult to find especially when it comes to rifles that are in working condition
and this rifle is very special and very famous because it was owned by Cal Pappas. Cal loved
bore rifles and he's responsible for the majority of the low data for eight-bore that he developed
with this rifle. He wrote lots of articles about it and he even took it to Africa. It is the most
well-documented eight-bore rifle out there and it's even in a book. Now I can't read but this is
the British bore rifle and here you have it on page 190, this exact rifle. Now you may be asking
yourself, Scott, how does one such as yourself who does nothing but shoot mayonnaise and mustard get
a hold of such an exquisite, well-documented, historical piece? We're not going to talk about
that. Here's what we're going to talk about though. I can't go to Africa, so today we're going to shoot
toilet fonts with this double barrel eight-bore rifle. These things are actually a lot more
difficult to take down than your standard elephant. Elephants are made out of things that are squishy
like flesh and bone. This is made out of pure porcelain. I know all you big bore aficionados
or however you say it out there are absolutely squirming right now that I have this rifle and
today we're going to have fun with it and shoot miscellaneous stupid targets. But boy, I'm so
excited to do so. So let's strap up and get to it. But before we blast these toilet fonts, let me
compare the eight-bore cartridge to some cartridges you may be familiar with so you know just how big
it really is. So starting here we have a .22, 9mm, 5.56, .308, .386, .338 Lapua and now we have the
eight-bore next to all of these and it is absolutely massive. Imagine you're heading to a
cookout. You've got the perfect juicy steak ready to hit the grill. You show up, walk over to the
barbecue and there's a giant T-Rex running the grill. Yeah, there's a reason you wouldn't trust
the T-Rex with your barbecue. Just like there's a reason Morgan & Morgan is America's largest
injury firm. Morgan & Morgan has been for the people for over 35 years with a proven track
record of fighting for people when they need it the most. They've also recovered over $30 billion
for their clients so they know a thing or two about fighting to get you the compensation you
deserve. And hiring Morgan & Morgan is basically like bringing an entire army into your corner.
They have more than 1,000 lawyers across 100 offices nationwide giving you a team with the
experience and resources to take on the fight. Because if you're injured because of someone else's
negligence you deserve to be paid. And not all law firms are the same. Choosing the wrong one
could leave you behind before the fight even begins. So if you're ever injured you can check
out Morgan & Morgan and you don't pay anything unless they win. To see if you have a claim you
can go to ForThePeople.com Kentucky Ballistics which can also be found in the description down
below. Again a big thank you to Morgan & Morgan for sponsoring today's video. Now let's get back to it.
I've shot a lot of big stuff but I've never shot an 8-bore rifle much less a double barrel
8-bore rifle. I am very excited I have two rounds of 8-bore. Each one of those is 1,375 grains.
Let's get this thing loaded up. There we go. Just ridiculous. Okay let's close her up. This is gonna
be fun. Hope this thing doesn't double on me. Let's go with the left toilet font first. Here we go.
I think I like this.
Let's hit that other one. Get in a little lower this time.
Oh my god.
Golly man. It's a lot but it's actually very controllable. I think it's a nice happy medium
between a 4-bore and well I don't know what. It's just like a smaller 4-bore and I like it.
Let's have a look at what's left of our toilet fonts. Took this one out right here. Took out
the upper region of its head and this one here I aimed a little lower in hopes that I would take
out the bowl and the top but it looks like I just took out the bowl because as you can see here
the top of its head is still intact. That's okay we're just gonna do this here.
Now it does feel like this rifle be kicking but we're gonna have to verify that with a test.
So up next is the she be kicking test. I have an air mattress. I have one round of 8-bore
and I'm gonna stand flat-footed shoot it and see if I fall over. Let's go with the left barrel.
Oh yeah I don't. This is this is gonna be bad. All right flat-footed I'm about as straight up
as I can be. Here we go. Oh I gotta pull the hammer back.
Oops I didn't flinch though. Did you see that? No flinch. Here we go.
Wow she definitely be kicking. I'm gonna lay this right here and I'm gonna take a nap now.
It worked out the way I wanted it to. The 8-bore rifle much like its other siblings was made to
penetrate deep into very large large creatures. I don't have large large creatures for this next
shot but I do have two brown sugar hams. These rounds are meant to penetrate so I'll be curious
to see how much energy transfer we get. What is this? Oh that's your brown sugar glaze.
Say that put that on something later. Oh I got me another brown sugar. Actually no I'm gonna try it
kind of curious to what that tastes like. Oh I mean it's literally just brown sugar.
Let's get some of that.
I think there's some cinnamon in that. That's pretty stout. You definitely want to dilute that.
I feel like I can't breathe. It's awful. I should have done that.
Okay there's ham number two. Let's go get set up with two more rounds of 8-bore
and see what kind of energy we transfer. I was going to shoot these hams from back there but
I've changed my mind and now I want to see what would happen if something was charging me and I
point blanked it with a double barrel 8-bore and I'm going to wear my metaglasses so you can see
what that would look like. Keep this thing open one round two rounds so we can get it shut. It's
oh my gosh
wow okay that's some energy transfer there now let's go with the right barrel
here we go whoa whoa there's ham sandwiches for everybody right now
I think I'm in love with the double barrel 8-bore. So the rounds I've been shooting today
are freshly loaded 8-bore rounds but I have something pretty cool today. This is two rounds
that were loaded by Cal Pappas and he actually took these to Africa on a hunt. We're going to
shoot them at these steel targets here see what happens. I'm wondering if we knock them over. Okay
two more going in the pipe let's go for the left one for now let's go for the right one first
I will use the rear barrel first there we go knocked it over yeah no question
all right let's let's shoot the other one we're going to use the right barrel this time
that is the right trigger here we go
man yeah I definitely think I like this 8-bore let's inspect our targets pretty obvious where
we hit with the 8-bore top left on this one there's a huge mark and then on this one over here
uh we were a lot closer to the center another giant lead splatter and those things got knocked
over like they got hit by an NFL linebacker oh look he's gonna shoot five gallon water jugs again
how boring well you're wrong 20 minutes later so we have five gallon water jugs and inside of one
I'm gonna put a six pound can of lemon pudding see this thing will even sink oh oh yeah and then
we have a six pound can of sweet peas two more rounds of 8-bore
I like this thing that's shut good okay let's go for the sweet peas first left barrel first
there we go
I think we got the peas and the water
now let's go for the pudding here we go
that top flew off like a frisbee
yeah that's what I'm talking about looks like we had two good hits definitely made it through that
five gallon water jug and busted the banana pudding and hit the peas if you look over here
we have pea all over the ground as you can see here there's some pea in the toilet
and there's pea out of the toilet okay we always want to get the pea in the toilet
up next I have a question about energy transfer if I was wearing a premier body armor level four
plate and took a hit from an 8-bore how much of that energy is going to transfer into my chest
now normally I would use a five gallon water jug but today I want to do something different we're
going to put a cinder block behind this plate and then hit it with the 8-bore like I said this is
premier body armor and this is a level four plate this thing is made to stop high velocity armor
piercing rounds so I don't think it'll have any trouble stopping the 8-bore but how about that
energy so this is a curved plate so I'm kind of having trouble getting this flat surface
to butt up against it but I think I'm going to go about right here I've only had a portion of
the cinder block on it but it's about that close from touching the plate so I'll aim about right
there for the B and wish for the best and this next test is brought to you by SDI and if you
want to get your start in firearms technology be sure and check them out there's a link in the
description down below 1,375 grain bullet coming at you all right here we go
holy cow
judging from that test I'm gonna say 100% I would not want to be wearing body armor of any sort
and get hit with an 8-bore did a good hit right there and as you can see it did stop
the 8-bore but look at this big flat bulge it was like Chuck Norris punched that cinder block
R.I.P. Chuck Norris that thing went everywhere there is blocks all the way back here pieces
of that block all the way back here look at this this is like 25 feet away from the table
that is absolutely nuts this double barrel 8-bore is really impressing me I mean some may say it's
nothing to shake a stick at up next I have some targets that I've actually become quite fond of
shooting I have some giant clay pots they are very very hard and then on the inside a five
gallon water jug which seems to be a good combo for these two targets I have some fresh loaded
8-bore and then I have one of Cal Pappas's original rounds we'll put his original round
in the left barrel and the fresh loaded in the right barrel all right let's do the one
we have made quite the mess today it's actually quite beautiful those last two targets got
absolutely obliterated by the 8-bore this is all my brass here I've shot all 12 rounds today that's
like a bazillion dollars an 8-bore so be sure and give this video a like and make sure you hit that
