At the end of the silent film era, Hollywood western star Tim Bart (Richard Dix) discovers his voice is ill-suited for a romantic leading man. His career in shambles, Bart sells his famed ranch in order to pay his debts. But when he's approached by Billy, a disabled boy to whom he once promised a ride on his horse, Bart is determined to honor his pledge and, renting his ranch for the day, invites a cast of stand-ins to attend a party as their movie star counterparts. But when Billy's riding accident forces Bart to consider robbing a bank for cash, the unexpected appearance of some real-life crooks makes him a hero and revives his movie career.
