🎬 ABOUT AMERICAN MADNESS 🎬

During the Great Depression, bank president Thomas Dickson (Walter Huston) battles his board of directors in order to keep making loans to his hard-pressed clientele. Making matters worse, he's hired his secretary's fiance ex-convict Matt Brown (Pat O'Brien), as chief head teller. While Matt is unflaggingly loyal to Dickson, employee Cyril Cluett's gambling debts and an affair with Phyllis Dickson (Kay Johnson) have made him vulnerable to a scheming ex-con. As news of a robbery hits the streets, Matt is immediately suspected as nervous depositors drain the bank of its funds. But as the board demands that Dickson resign, it falls to his friends to come to the rescue and Phyllis to save their shaky marriage as Matt struggles to clear his good name.
