Ezri Konsa has barely arrived at Arsenal, but his performance against Chelsea already showed exactly why Mikel Arteta wanted him.

In his first start and home appearance at the Emirates, Konsa stepped into an Arsenal defence missing William Saliba and helped the Gunners secure a huge 2-1 victory over Chelsea. From his thunderous tackle on former Aston Villa teammate Morgan Rogers to his composure alongside Gabriel, Konsa looked remarkably comfortable despite having only a handful of training sessions with his new teammates.

But this goes much deeper than one impressive performance.

In this video, we break down why Arsenal committed up to £55 million to sign Ezri Konsa, the Premier League numbers behind his passing and defensive ability, why his experience at Aston Villa prepared him perfectly for Mikel Arteta’s system, and what his arrival could mean when William Saliba eventually returns.

If this is already Konsa’s level after just a few Arsenal training sessions, Arsenal’s rivals may have a much bigger problem than they initially thought.
