A Beautiful Autumn Day On The Farm | baking apple pie

See, now she's a nice girl. We are slowly starting to transition from summer to fall here on the farm and my goodness what a beautiful and busy time of the year. Spring and fall generally tend to be the busiest here on the with planting and harvest so we are just entering that busy harvest season here and I thought today I would give you a little glimpse into that. We are still gathering apples by the basketfuls so trying to do as many apple flavored things as we can. I think for breakfast today we'll do some apple cinnamon peanut butter cream of wheat. I have been baking sourdough now for 13 years I believe. This thing just lives on my counter. It is so nice and bubbly right now. Thinking maybe we should whip something up this morning. However, despite how often I bake my own bread I have no shame in the fact that I also use bread products from Wild Grain. Let's put a little bit right here. All right go ahead. I wanna roll it. First we're gonna make a crumb topping for the apple pie so I put in a third cup of flour and then we're gonna do three quarter cup. I'm using organic cane sugar and then two tablespoons butter. We'll mix this all together and this will go in the bottom of the crust as well as sprinkled on top later. They want to go play. The pie is now done. This is what it looks like. I cannot wait to dive in. I know the kids have been asking when can we have that pie so we are all excited to dive into that and then I made some homemade ice cream yesterday as well. This is a honey caramel. It did I don't know curdle maybe a touch so it's not as creamy as I like but I think it will still be really good with the pie so we're gonna dish this up for a barn snack today.
