But what we all know, sitting in this room, is that you can bring jobs,
you can bring employers to employ people in our community all day long.
But if you're not deliberate and intentional with your actions,
you can miss the opportunities truly before you.
That last night, we voted to invest $250,000 both in Winthrop University and
York Technical College, and you always do that alphabetically, everybody.
So that they could grow our people into these jobs.
It doesn't do us any good if we land all of these jobs,
paying all these higher wages, if our people don't get those jobs.
And again, we have to be intentional in our efforts to do that.
These investments being made by the city of Rock Hill come from our economic
development fund, which is where they should come from.
And they come because we have 1.6 million people in our labor shed,
that's in Chester, Lancaster, and York County Central.
That can take these jobs, and change their lives, and make our community one
that does two things, grows and becomes bigger and better than we ever thought.
But maintains our character, and our name, and who we are, because it's our people.
