This video presents a design for a cozy and elegant three-bedroom house that blends traditional charm with modern functionality. The home emphasizes a balanced personality, focusing on natural light, indoor-outdoor living, and cost-effective construction without sacrificing style or spaciousness.
Welcome back to Star Aspect Designs. Today we are looking at a simple cozy and elegant
three-bedroom house that somehow managed to be both traditional and modern without having an
identity crisis. It is a lovely mix of traditional charm and modern living. Basically the kind of
house that says I have taste without shouting about it from across the street.
And then there's that wraparound porch because frankly sometimes you just need a place to sit
and stare into the distance and that's why we have that porch there.
Another thing that's stunning about this house is the roof. Now the roof is just a simple gable roof
very easy to construct and of course easy on the wallet. You know you can put your money to
other things, the school fees, shopping, maybe a little nyamachoma but you can't spend everything
on a complicated roof with unnecessarily steep angle. So that's why you have those two gable
roofs there. One is a bit higher than the other just to create that height in the living spaces.
At the back here you have the master bedroom with the signature corner windows we normally have.
And then we go back to the front to that wraparound porch which has become quite a statement these
days. And indoor and outdoor living is a must. So here you have a house that is simple without
being boring, elegant without being pretentious, traditional without feeling outdated and
definitely modern without trying too hard. So here you have the plan. It's a basic plan for the house.
You can pause and take some time to study it but it's also a very simple plan. No complicated kinks
quite ideal for your construction. So here is the AkiCAD model. This is the software I used
for all my designs. As you can see this is the gable that I was talking about. So as I said this
roof at the living area is higher than the other one at the private spaces. And the reason for that
is just to achieve that height in that open plan living area and also to include that window there.
And that high level window really helps in terms of lighting. First of all you get some very good
ambient lighting in your living spaces and you can also you could also put some permanent
ventilation so even air circulation would be fantastic. So that is the house. And one other
thing this house has achieved that most of us are still working on. A balanced personality.
Traditional and modern at the same time. We all wish we could be that. So let's move to the 3D plan.
All right so this is the 3D plan. I'll just take you through it room by room. First this is the
entry point. So however you arrange your site that will be up to you and also up to the size of your
site. Now this house generally it's about 10 meters by 16 meters but that is without
the wraparound porch. So 10 meters by 16 meters. And once you enter then you enter first the
wraparound porch and then you can enter there and get into your foyer. And once you get into the
of course you normally have your storage, cabinetry, some seating. And then you get in
and on this side of the house you have the living spaces. On that other side of the house then you
have the private areas. And that door directly on is the door into the kitchen. And this is a closed
up kitchen. So the living area is open with a closed kitchen and then from here you transition
to the bedrooms. Now at the living areas you have the lounge and then you have the dining area. One
thing I like about this space the lighting is magnificent with all these side windows and then
those large windows at the side. Then you have a door that can lead you also into the porch.
One other modification you could make is instead of having a swing door then you can make all of
this a glass sliding door. It's all about your taste. Sometimes people prefer that it's one small
door for security purposes. Sometimes people prefer that you can open up the space entirely
so that you inside but still have the feeling of being outside. So that there is the lounge
and then this here is the dining area. Now you could close up the kitchen entirely
or you could also have a hatch. Where this picture is you could have a hatch
for service between the dining and the kitchen. So this here is the lounge. It's a bit spacious
not too spacious also. I know there's some people who like very large living rooms
but for this case you do have the option of expanding to the outside. So if you have guests
you can easily open up and have the porch also serve as your hosting area. Then this is the
entrance I was talking about. So that's where you enter and then you come to the lounge.
And then just past that entry foyer at this space here you then have the guest clock room.
So as I was saying here then you have your clock room for the guests and then from here is when you
now get into the private areas of the house. This here is the kitchen. It's a closed up kitchen
where then you can have your fridge there, your cooker here and then your sink at that far end.
And it's a quite spacious kitchen with enough more than enough storage. And then you have also
your pantry at this location here where you could have your chest freezer and then have your pantry
shelves, your storage shelves. And then this door sorry let's just see that this door here will then
lead you into the kitchen yard. And the kitchen yard is just an open space with you can put
grills all around but I prefer that this wall be solid because you have a washing area there
so you want at least to block it off with some tiles as it is a wet area.
Then you can have your washing machine also at this section and maybe a counter. This can
be a prep area basically an extension of your kitchen. Then that door is now where you get
outside into the backyard where you can have a kitchen garden, you can have some clothing lines
however you want to arrange your backyard if you do have one. Now when we get into the private
areas of the house then as I mentioned it's a three bed. So what you have, you have one bedroom
there and another bedroom here and they share these common facilities in the middle. So a bathroom and
toilet in the middle there. And then for the master bedroom this is the door that enters into the
master bedroom. Then you have your walk-in closet there and then you have your ensuite
bathroom there. The master bedroom is also quite spacious so it's very ideal for the people who
love their space. And as you can see more than enough storage for the shopaholics. So again
there you have it. You can just take some time and study that 3D plan, see what you'd like to
incorporate into your construction. Also let us know what doesn't work. But one thing that this
house focuses on is the indoor living and the outdoor living and of course natural light.
We always insist on natural light. So there you have it. A three-bedroom house that proves
sometimes less is more. All you need are good proportions, beautiful spaces, plenty of natural
light and a porch where you can sit and wait for your life to make sense. If this design sparked
