A man shot four times while walking his dog last month has been released from the hospital
and reunited with his dog.
Fox 4 showed you this video of Joshua Painter saying goodbye to his dog as he was loaded
into an ambulance.
Dallas Animal Services took Bella, cared for her while Painter was recovering.
Fox 4's Peyton Yeager has more of the joyful reunion.
The man shot, released from a Dallas hospital Thursday evening.
I've been staying up to date on his recovery through a complete stranger who saw our original
story and just wanted to help.
All three of us able to meet up this afternoon.
I dropped and I rolled and tried to get her up in me.
First thought for Joshua Painter, protect his pup Bella.
He was shot four times in Pleasant Grove while the two were out walking.
He said, do you want to die today?
And I said, dude, take me off your script.
And I kept walking.
Just before 11 p.m. on August 31st, Dallas police say 18-year-old David Gabriel Ramirez
opened fire seemingly at random.
Investigators were told Ramirez had been drinking and had just left his house about a mile away,
extremely hostile and armed with a handgun.
Fox 4 reported on the initial shooting, sharing this graphic cell phone video from a witness.
Painter bleeding on the sidewalk of Prairie Creek Road.
Bella not leaving his side.
It's just a little bit of kindness.
Charlie Croker of Mesquite saw our coverage.
At first, she thought the man shot was a homeless man with a white pit bull from her neighborhood.
So she called around to Dallas hospitals.
Turns out it wasn't.
And I didn't want to just hang up.
It was Painter.
He was like, can you help me get my dog back?
And I was I was like, I'm a dog mom.
Croker picked Painter up from Parkland, took him to Dallas Animal Services to reunite with
Bella and even put him up in a hotel for the weekend.
I'm so thankful that I got my dog back and and and a room to rest my neck for a little
bit and and my foot.
What comes after that still up in the air, but the two together again.
As for the suspect Ramirez, he was arrested the night of the shooting.
We just learned he bonded out of the Dallas County Jail a few days ago.
In Dallas, Peyton Yeager, Fox 4 News.
